    No exactly. Looking at that UCA BJ is cringe worthy if thats ride height.

    I don't think its the photo. Bet you have 1-1.25'' of down travel. If that.

    No one should ever run those coils ever unless you have a bumper, skids, and a winch.

    Thats one of the most helpful comments I've gotten! I intend to do exactly that, with a little goblin juice on the treads to hold em in :thumbsup:

    Ok guys, I'm gonna be installing all new goodies to replace my spacer lift up front that was on since I bought it. So I'm wanting to replace ALL the little extras that go with the struts. Such as stem cushions and Top plates. Even the lower shock bolts..

    Besides the lower bolts, what all do I need? I see wheelers has . Is that all I need for the top? Says it includes the coil isolator as well as the stem cushion. Do I need the washers too or are those included/not needed with the top plate assembly as well?

    Thats pretty much all you need, top plate comes with the nuts which is nice cause they usually end up fubar'd. I'm assuming by all new goodies, you'll be putting in new struts. they will come with washers and new bushings so you'll be all good. Are you going to assemble them?

    Nice! yeah the only tricky part is making sure you orient the top plate studs and lower shock mount so they line up right, not much room for error. I found that out the hard way :anonymous:

    I done them on quite a few vehicles, and never really had fun o_O, but as long as you keep track of what goes where (some good photos on here), and put the assembly practically together before you put them back on the backing plate, it's not really hard. I'll see if I can find the well-documented guide on here for the 1st-gen.

    Found it: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/first-gen-brake-shoe-write-up.420876/#post-11994497

    Only disassemble one side at a time. Use the opposite side a reference. Just remember that it is a mirror image.

    ++^^ what he said....

    Using the adjusters to get the new shoes right up against the drums, and then backing off the adjusters until the drums can turn, will get the emergency brake working better. I still had to take the slack out of the aft half of the e.cable to get the number of clicks reduced so it would hold.

    Yeah I need to investigate a "clunk" coming from my front passenger side. This clunk is only heard/felt when I turn into the driveway. I could not find any abnormalities on visual inspection, so now I need to jack up the frontend and evaluate LBJ play. Just wish it would stop raining here long enough for me to do that!

    I hear that, I'm clear weather dependent too when I need to wrench! Many people have report clunking before finding out the LBJ's are toast. Look for grease leaking, even if the joint feels tight. It wont take long for it to dry out and fail. Mine are rock solid, but when I stuck my finger under the rubber guard, there was grease built up and sure enough I found a tear in the boot. No bueno

    No grease anywhere but I am concerned about early signs of fatigue. I upgraded my wheel and tire set this spring and am wondering if the added weight has anything to do with the clunk I'm hearing. If I don't find any LBJ play, I'm thinking about replacing them anyway for peace of mind.

    'Cuse the rust, but this is the condition of mine. Its been leaking grease slowly, so its all dried up and stuck on. Right at the pointer finger is a tiny tear. I think this side is on its way to fender crunchin' fun soon :bananadead:

    Thats good to hear, but yeah I'd be worried if they have seem some mileage. I agree with others, these need to be considered a wear item and replaced. The peace of mind is worth it :thumbsup: I'm also pushing 33's, and believe without a doubt thats accelerating wear on a lot of things up front :anonymous: Gotta pay to play :cool:
