    Status update:
Get a call from Service dept. "Ma'am, your truck is ready for pick up" @7:30am next day.
I asked what the diagnosis was and what was fixed. Their response was, nothing. The diagnostic tests were normal. No failure.
I asked if they could keep it longer and do more tests and leave it running all day if they wanted to cuz I was SURE it would happen again.
They asked if I had taken a picture of the message error when it happened otherwise Toyota has no proof that there was an issue with the truck.
I didn't have a pic and it stalled 3 times.
I had a 4 hour trip later that day and I was fearing the truck would stall and leave my daughter stranded in the middle of nowhere.
2hrs later and I still had no loaner, no way to get to work nor the dealership, I get a call from Customer Service Manager. Come get the truck, there is no issue with it.
So, I finally get a ride to the dealership with my daughter and small pet.
They explained that without a diagnostic test they are unable to replace any parts. I told them about (oldzschoolguy) recommendation camshaft position sensor and other suggestions from this thread.
    They were not doing anything.
I asked if they could keep the truck for the weekend and if I could have a loaner? I was told that if the truck didn't stall while on their service, I would be responsible for the loaner fees.
I looked at the woman across the counter and said, "ok, I'll take my truck, I'll be stranded on my road trip with my daughter and roadside assistance will be by whenever they locate my location. And the truck will be taken to another dealership, it will become someone else's problem. And I'll start this process again."
"But look behind you ma'am, (big TOYOTA sign) it is supposed to stand for dependability and durability."
She waits for a moment and asked me to hold on. A minute later she says, we have you a loaner at no charge!
I thanked her greatly and went my way.
Halfway through the trip, a call from the dealership, "ma'am your truck is Broken, it stalled 3 times! We all looked at each other and said, we're glad we have her the loaner!!"

Of course I was happy but concerned because the diagnostic is still not giving out a code. So they are ordering the camshaft position replacement just by feeling 85% sure that this is the problem.
I hope it is, because I don't want to be left stranded again.

Glad things are looking up! I'm also filing that CPS tidbit away for future reference; hope I don't need it.

Thanks for giving us an update!

I am a single mother, my 1st duty is to keep my child safe. I joined to find answers and to inform others of some of the issues that I have encountered with my vehicle. When I searched for answers, there were none like my case. There was a similar one on this forum. I wanted to become part of it so learn about my vehicle and to prevent any further issues that could lead to potential accidents.
The Truck just stalled while driving 55mph. No opportunity to pull over.
I thank everyone who has given their positive feedback and sharing their mechanical knowledge because although I may have sounded like a fool, I held my phone open to the forum while asking the Service Manager to check this and that.
If this was a healthcare forum, I would be glad to share with all the people my knowledge. Thanks to all. I'll Keep posting results.

This is a major safety issue. I hope you have cited this with Corporate and have an active case (sorry I did not take the time to read all of your situation).

Imagine you are driving in the left lane of a 3 or 4 lane Interstate during rush hour and the truck takes a dump on you. You're stuck and in a perilous situation!! Bad for you, your passengers and anyone on the road around you.

You should stick around TW. They'll get you lifted and crawling like a pro. Then you'll want a roof top tent...then a bigger lift...then come back with questions on which tires won't rub...

Before you know it, you'll be IMing @tcBob for a window sticker and asking folks where the next meet is at.

I owned a 2007 GMC Canyon for many years. I love gardening, I have chickens too. I own a truck to haul, hay to keep them warm in the cold, mulch, soil for my vegetable garden. My child is 9 going on 10. I wouldn't be able to do much on a tiny Rav4
And I don't have proof until I get back from my trip and pick up my truck. Will keep posting updates and answering questions. Thanks

Colorado could of done that too. No brand is without it's lemons. I've drove them all and they can all fail. Toyota has been good to me admittedly though the local dealerships seem to be slipping.

OP please note that's it's the crankshaft position sensor that appears to be failing at a high rate. I misspoke when I said the "camshaft positions sensor". Please clarify with your dealership and make sure they're replacing the correct sensor!
In the immortal words of the hammer... I hope that helps :)

    ^^It ought to help^^
Last thing she needs is to have the wrong sensor installed and have it stall again.

    Cheers!

I think you are both missing the fact that people are MUCH more likely to get online and complain than to sing praises. Might skew your numbers in favor of an issue that may not be nearly as widespread as what you're thinking.

Well folks, I was sitting stationary with the truck in Park talking on the Bluetooth the truck shudders...studders and dies. It's a 2016 with 13k. The check charging system, followed by low oil pressure, then transmission temperature high. Called Toyota Service for advice, tech will call back. 25 minutes later I call them. The service manager said I could try to limp the truck there. Truck fired up no issues or warnings. 1/2 way there, the transmission started to shudder and the truck tried to die and shortly after did...same warning screens. Let the truck sit for 30 minutes proceeded to the dealer. Looked under and in engine bay after both times it dying, no leaks...nothing...oil level fine. Shut the truck off went into the service writers office. Staff went to start the truck to take it back...turned over and wouldn't start. The 2nd stall I was on a 3 lane road trying to coast into the parking lot...big deal. I'm hearing from the forum it's more than likely a crankshaft position sensor. Local dealer said they've had "0" trucks come in with this issue. Believe Toyota may have a bad batch of these sensors. Will update when they call and give me a status on my truck tomorrow .

That's a bummer , but it does sound like a CPS issue Which is a pretty straightforward fix . Keep us posted

My 4th Toyota truck. Last one for 2002, 13 years, 173k before I sold it for this new one. Had little to no problems with that truck. 1st year with this motor and transmission...Guess I should expect small issues. Just not dying like this. Glad I wasn't in the middle of the woods like I was earlier in the morning . Would have been a bear getting that truck out. God was watching over me today.

Yes, Crankshaft Position Sensor, it has a new part number, so it's been revised.

I guess I fit the description of a new user looking to find answers for a problem some of the earlier members were talking about, but I sure am glad to find this thread. My 2016 TRD Sport with 16,400 miles is at the dealership right now, for the second time, with the same problem and same maintenance department responses. Hopefully when I tell them about this thread they will know what to do to get it fixed. I'm not complaining though. I still love the truck and halfway expected something like this with a new model and all the sophisticated electrical components these vehicles have.
