What the elastic bungey cords between the cab and seat, with the plastic seat belt holder for?

0.5hp when not under load. Most people report about a 1mpg drop with the blower. And it would be difficult to work with the Atkinson cycle technology, requiring more R&D, R&D that would reduce fuel economy.

Toyota has just over 8 years to raise the fuel economy average to 54.5mpg. They will face heavy fines for every 0.1mpg they are short. That is a near impossible challenge. You are going to see a massive shift into favoring efficiency over everything else. Anything unnecessarily parasitic will have no place in this automotive future. Your going to see manufactures spending their R&D dollars on smaller discplacement high boost turbos, not larger displacement lower efficiency superchargers.

 

On cars most have a little piece of elastic bungey cord coming off the cab between the seat and cab. I believe it holds the seatbelt. but idk why?

 

and this pertains to a 3rd generation tacoma supercharger how?

 

And air actuated valves using a computer and recycled exhaust. Less wasted energy, less weight, less emissions, more fuel economy and more power.

Koenigsegg is using this technology. Therefore, it's probably really expensive and well-engineered. Cool tech though.

 

I think cars need to lose some weight, reduce thermal losses, and dump the parasitics, pretty fast.

 

you engineer a vehicle that can do that and meet emissions AND safety requirements....If it were that easy don't you think they would have done that by now? I'd imagine if they were able to drop all that stuff the vehicles would be much cheaper for Toyota to manufacturer...

 

Ford is doing it with Aluminum and meeting IIHS safety crash testing And I don`t see why they can not use a 4cyl turbo to get the hp and tq figures they need.

 

Konnesig actually bought that company for their technology. Before they became konnesig, I read that supposedly they had all the problems associated with air/electronic/pneumatic actuated valves and camless technology Meanwhile still cheaper than our traditional way.

Many of the auto manufactures in the U.S. market have been experimenting with it including Ford and GM. A low cost ($25-30k) Chinese auto manufacturer is utilizing this technology into their production vehicles.And many auto parts manufacturers are investing some money in R&D.

A fun little shop project is to build one at home with and small 4 stroke motor.

Probably a few reasons, but look up the chicken tax. That's probably one of them.

 

It can be done. Most internal combustion engines are less than 30-35% chemically efficient. There are great gains to be had there. Most tires are a high silica compound with a heat generating flagella at the end of each carbon chain. Add up all the molecules in a tire's sidewall, and you have a lot of heat being generated in tires. That is why some people with hybrids sink their gas mileage when they switch to a non recommended tire. The hybrids have tires with altered carbon chains. Heat=wasted energy. Most steel bearings are slightly out of round and add to the parasitic losses. There are a lot of bearings in a drivetrain. Gear mesh coefficients of friction is another great energy waster. There are platings and coatings that drop coefficients of friction to nearly zero without drag. With the current processes, materials engineering can go a long way.

 

Short answer: Ask Japan.

TMC (Japanese mother company) still retains the design of every North American Toyota/Lexus/Scion, except the Tundra - which is why the Tundra is called an All American truck. Japan dictates that the tacoma is for NA, and the other continents get the Hilux.
