Dakars rubbing through brake lines?

I noticed today that my brake lines, which rest above the Dakars, are starting to rub through. Has anyone else had this problem?

 

I don't think they should be resting there. Mine have clips that keep them off to the side.

 

Your parking brake cable should not be resting above your spring clamps like that. Should be a cable retainer bolted somewhere on there.

 

Cable retainer wont fit with dakars. You flex, it will over extend that cable. Take the brake cable and place it along side the springs rather than on top. I'm surprised they haven't ripped em yet, I guess you haven't flexed the suspension much.

 

Yep haven't done too much wheeling since getting the lift installed. If anyone remembers, I'm the guy that had the shop install the the coil seats upside down, so it's no surprise they messed something else up.

 

Mine are on the side, but they do touch the springs and it concerns me.

 

They shouldn't be up there

 

Go to your local parts store and buy a thick rubber hose, or better yet to a shop and see if they'll give you an old one. Cut the hose down to cover the worn area of the brake line, then zip tie them on. Replace as needed.

 

For those with clips or a retainer, do you have a photo of what that looks like?

 

Stock springs have the retainer. I wouldn't put one on springs with this much travel.

 

They've since worn through so I asked the dealership how much to replace them. $550

 

Is this just the parking brake or is it the drum brakes too?

 

It's the parking brake line.

 

The retainers wouldn't fit, so I just zip tied them to the other retainer. Not really sure why as I don't need them, but it might have had to do with the fact I was drinking and wrenching late at night during the install.


Pic below--the retainer on the left looks very similar to the retainer on the front spring perch. It is just loosely zip tied up there.

I ripped my e-brake clamp/bracket off the first time I flexed the Dakars... didn't think ahead lol. Fabricated a longer bracket out of some spare aluminum sheet and it works like a charm.

 

This is really all you need if you want to prevent chafing. Either that or take some heater hose and slice it open then place over the cable. Tons of options out there.
