Currently has a 3" OME lift kit. I have a set of 17" SCS Stealth wheels but need tires.
I'm a newb when it comes to this stuff, if you had $3,000 to spend on mods what would you do? Tires MUST be one of the mods listed.

Tires are at least a grand of that. I think it depends on what your going to use your truck for. Build your truck for how your going to use it. Is it going to be a camping truck or strictly just wheeling on trails? If I were in your shoes I would spend money on protective stuff first like seat covers and weather techs. which will put you back about 600-700. Now your at 1700 spent. Then mods that will get you out of a bind. Sliders, hi-lift jack, full size spare and recovery gear. Man that adds up fast. Of course we can all spend a metric shit ton of cash on our trucks and still not be complete. Thats why I think its important to prioritize purchases then add all of the goodies later.

If he goes to a 10 ply like the ko2 it makes a big difference. My truck shifts into and holds 4th on the slightest incline. Which is sometimes annoying since I live in a hilly mountainous area.

No one is going to be able to answer this question for you. They'll say what THEY would do to THEIR truck, but that may not be best suited for your needs.

Do you off road a lot?
    Is it your daily driver?
Do you want a mall crawler?

These are just a few questions that tailor our answers.

I wouldn't be asking strangers to decide for me how I should spend my hard earned cash.

Second, I'd think hard about what I need for my truck based on my lifestyle and hobbies.

Some light off-roading, mainly mall crawling. I'm to worried about damaging it off road to get to extreme.
Not a daily driver at this point, but my drive to work just got cut into a third of what it was(Round trip was 75 miles, now it's 26). A part of me is tempted to trade the Taco and the DD on a 17 4Runner

Some won't say this but I like the runners especially the lifted ones they are a lot more meaner when lifted and stuff. But I do recommend you take off all the lift stuff cause it's not going to add value when trading it in, in most cases. Some dealers would add value

I know this has probably been discussed a million times, would 285/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler G2s fit with a 3" OME lift? Would it require a spacer
I never heard of needing to regear for this tire size, the thing is already geared stupidly low IMO.

Use the search Bar or youtube but you can run 34s and 20s without needing spacers maybe a little plastic trimming

Uhhhh, no. That's flat out wrong.

OP, in regards to your question on 285s. Paired with your SCS wheels, you'll clear the UCA fine. As far as rubbing other stuff, you will. Since you don't offroad you'll likely be fine around town with cutting of plastic and that's it. You still run the risk of hitting your CMC though as you hit bumps around town and stuff the tire upwards. You'll likely be fine but just keep in mind that you may have to do a CMC. Everyone's trucks are different and some get away with no CMC while others absolutely need it.

I probably would've been fine without one for around town driving, but I did one because I off road.

If it was me, I'd spend whatever tires cost in a size that doesn't break the budget and use the rest planning trips, IOW fuel to go places and for beer to drink while there.

What's wrong??? look all over IG with all the teenagers running that. There's even a video on YouTube and I'll post a pic of someone running 32s and 20s with no rubbing issues

Most of those guys never take their trucks off road so they don't properly cycle their suspension. If they did, they'd rub like a mofo. I guarantee even driving around town their turning radius is worse and they probably rub over every little bump. Not to mention the extra strain on the gearing running those nig, heavy tires.

If OP want's to properly fit tires with minimal work, 285 is the maximum he should go. Anything more is just unnecessary and expensive.
