I agree, pretty easy job as long as they're not seized in, even then a puller makes quick work of it. I got my shipping confirmation, so new OEM ones should be here Tues.

 

Surely for the cost of all that stuff you could just get a full new coilover? A saw 2.0?

Plenty of room for error.

Install the top.

If the bottom is t lined up use a big screw driver, or tap, or whatever you have that's long and will fit in the lower mount hole. Then twist it where you need it to be.

Easy.

Yea really just put the top in and put the nuts on a bit. Leave it loose so you can pull the shock away from the truck a bit to do it.

Should be no problem though.

 

Precisely how I installed my Kings. The screwdriver lined up the lower uniball mount perfectly to where I could thread the bolt back in. Easiest part of the front suspension work for me.

 

hahah I'm just laughing at all the time I wasted trying to line everything up, first with my OEM coils but new bilsteins, then with the OME setup. never thought to just rotate the base.. wow.
the good news is the next setup will be coilovers, problem solved

 

one time and only time so far! but yes I got 500 miles out of it on one fill up...

but for what it is worth it was all highway one shot at night and with no stops and almost no traffic between the 2 truck stops that I filled up at 500 miles apart. going between 60-70 mph...
I have drove the same route several times since and never repeated it... the closest I have ben since is between 400 and 410 miles out of a tank on the same route.

 

also, did the steering shaft tack weld mod over the weekend... Wow.

100% better on the highway! no more highway wander, no slop, and no more of that horrible "skaking the coin jar" rattle off road... its a hard choice between this and soundproofing the cabin for my favorite mod to date!

 

Do you off road? I've been contemplating doing this mod. But am worried there will be a ton of feedback in the steering wheel at 50mph on dirt roads.

 

This sounds like something I need to do.

 

I don't go all out off road like some do... that gets expensive quick in a DD.

but I do travel a lot of really rough fire roads that pry qualify as off road due to no gravel, a lot of washouts, big sticking up rocks, and 1+ ft deep ruts - did a short trial run today.
honestly I can't tell much difference on dirt other than no more rattle and a slightly more solid feel.
big difference is on the highway and two lanes- huge difference!
unbelievable how the tiny amount of slop could be so obnoxious.

 

Got my new radiator (TYC brand), hoses (Carquest), thermostat and cap (OEM) installed today. Flushed out the block while everything was apart and filled it up w the Toyota Long life coolant. I need to top it off as I only used 1 gal coolant + 1 gal distilled water. I didn't see any leaks so far.

I installed the thermostat with the jiggle valve in the 6 o'clock position as is called for in the FSM, but the old one I took out had the jiggle valve installed at 12 o'clock.

 

Do it and dont look back

 

New driver door hinge bushings. Ordered a set for the passenger door right after finishing those up. I had forgotten how buttery smooth these doors can be!

One of my bolt heads broke off so i ended up putting the knuckle on my workbench to get the remaining bolt out. However, my dad's truck went smoothly and we had it done easily in an evening after work.

 

Finished my 2 low mod.

 

Itd be almost $600 more for ext kings, which I contemplated for a while. But I really don't see the need for ext c/o's for me. Plus, not sure theyd ride all that better maxed out with the lift I want to retain. From what I hear.. Still on the fence tho. Not ordering until I'm completely confident. So win me over lol. Also, how often would kings need to be serviced? That's another factor playing in my decision.. I wouldn't like the downtime. She's my dd.. Not only that, but my rear setup wouldn't come close to matching.

Haven't added any grease to zerks but gonna go by grainger to pick up some super lube tomorrow.

 

Never said anything about extended travel. You can get them standard travel. Think saws 2.0s are 800 bucks.

Depending on where you live and conditions you'll get 20-60k out of them or more even. Then may never an oil change and low hiem joints.

2" of lift is ideal. Just saying. Better for the truck all around.
