Especially since the mere sight of a firearm is enough to scare most potential threats

U can always get a .22 that is similar in size and function and praction basically everything with that and more or less transpose it to ur 9mm. (another huge plus for double action revolvers since they all work exactly the same) and u can shoot all day for $20 bucks

Careful with that, brandishing a firearm can get you in more trouble than it's worth.

Who needs to brandish it, showing it in a holster is what I was implying

In my case, I just don't have the time to go shoot. I understand @stronghammer 's position on this. With snapcaps he can train a lot at home, then get to the range once a month or so.

That can still be considered "brandishing". I'm no lawyer nor did i stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but in my opinion, don't show it unless you plan on using it. YMMV

Intimidation with a firearm is also illegal and if there are 2 sides of the story there is always a chance u can be charged with that. Im not saying if they imidiately take off running shoot em in the back but if they are still facing you (or attacking someone else, which in that case a shot in the back is justifiable) you better be prepared to drop the hammer.

Lol we are talking about threats where a firearm would be used and y'all are worried about showing off the firearm...

Depending on laws, that can be considered brandishing also. It can also be considered assault.

The first choice is de-escalate the situation if possible.

With that said, terrorism is coming our way and everyone needs to be prepared to defend themselves and their families. I hope that never happens, but the reality is that it's in our near future.

Not even once, in my 37 years have I ever had a need for a weapon of any kind. I've seen my fair share of bad situations living in some of the worst cities in the country.

Now don't get me wrong, I own a couple guns myself. I just don't carry them with me. To many fine lines, that can get you in huge trouble if you lightly cross them.

I carry occasionally, but it really depends on the situation and where I'm at. Situational awareness is your best friend.

I carry everyday; same reason i have health/home/and auto insurance. Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it... Well that health insurance part has gotten less true but thats another story

I've only ever needed my seatbelt once, yet I use it every time I get in a vehicle.

Two years ago I was getting groceries and had a tweaker charge at me full speed after yelling at me from across the parking lot that he needed some money. Was about 10PM and I was all alone. He saw me reach for my holstered pistol (never drew it) and immedietly made a right turn and screamed "don't shoot me" as he was running away.

It all happened in about 20 seconds. I have no idea what would have happened if I wasn't armed and he had been able to close the gap between the two of us.

EDCing a pistol is about being prepared and after years and years of carrying the damn thing having it with me that night probably saved my life.

Night time is the most dangerous time. My mom works nights, and I make her carry.

Personally, I never go out at night. I've gotten in a couple fights over the years do to crazy people, but even if I was carrying, I wouldn't have pulled it in those situations.

I would have been more worried about the attacker going for it, or it falling out giving someone else access to it.

I'll NEVER tell anyone not to carry, it's a personal choice. The last time I came out of Asskrackistan, I honestly felt naked without a sidearm.

I'm certainly not telling anyone to not carry. I'm just saying that I prefer not to.

I agree, carrying will probably not be a thing for me. It will be less common that not carrying, at least.

This. I will carry when I know certain areas that I'm going, but I'm like Dave....25 years old and never seen the need for a weapon, but in today's world I can see the need.
