Okay Portals are really cool, I get it.

    Realistically though, Why?

Use Dana 60's with 40's or bigger.
Or it seems like use Dana 44's and 35-37's and portals.

I am on 31" tires right now. If i wanted 5 or 4" more inches of clearance that would mean 41" or 39" tires. I will have to lift the body and trim the body...etc. This is the route i will likely take, because it is cheaper and it has been pioneered by all you swell people here and on other sites. But really, Giving it 4" portal stilts is all i need. Both mods will likely drive like crap on road but the portal might afford a lower CG and no trimming.

First, none of this is going to be remotely 'bolt on', whether portal or not. I believe you need to lift any solid axle swap rig to have clearance above the pumpkin, and retain sufficient up travel. And, with the portal, although you might not need to lift as much or run as big a tire to get the clearance you desire below axle, you may need to lift even more to have clearance above the axle (which now sits higher relative to the hubs). I don't think portals are going to help your CG at all.

Whats so scary about trimming fenders? portals would be an insane ammount of work, the pinions are long as hell. D44s are garbage even polishing the turds with portal boxes. you can fit 255/85/16s on these trucks with like an inch of lift and some beating in the front fender wells with a hammer and wheel 90% of the trails in the country.

Im also confused when you say you have never seen portals on a truck with leafs then post a pic of a truck with leafs??
