Tacoma in the foreground is my friend's. He's got about a 2.5-3'' Icon lift with OME leaf packs and Built Right UCA's. He's running 265/75/16 BFG All Terrain KO on stock TX pro wheels with 1.25'' wheel spacers all around. He's done 0 trimming, but he does rub on his plastic fender liners when reversing.

Tacoma in the background is mine. 2.5-3'' lift, Bilstein 5100's all around set to 0 in front using Toytec springs, OME leaf packs and Built right UCAs. Raceline R6 wheels with 4.5 backspacing (0 offset) with 285/75/16 General Grabber AT2. At first, after a proper alignment, I rubbed on everything. Now, after CMC and hammering in the pinch weld, I only rub on the front fender liner at full lock reverse. Although, after some wheeling, my tires left a template for me so I know where I need to cut to no longer rub :D

talking to toytec now, they are recommending a stage 4 icon lift with the total chaos ucas and boss progresive leaf for the back. All this should be around 2900$ total. What do you guys think of that? Can't decide on stage 3 or 4.. hmmm

I'd like to call out the people that say you can't have a 285 without rubbing. I run 285/65/R17 KO2's and rub the front bumper wheel well plastic and it's a minimal and that's because I was missing a screw. No cab mount chop and no beating the pinch wells. You can ask @ChadsPride whos seen mine in person on my rims and tires. It's all about back spacing on the wheels. So someone please tell me I'm full of it because the same rims I was running now had a 265/70/R17 a few months ago.

Do you have UCA's? How's your alignment? I actually rubbed less when I had stock UCA's but found out later that my alignment got pushed out of spec because of it which gave me the "clearance" to not rub.

What exactly will you be doing with your lift? All I get from this thread is you're trying to lift your truck so you can fit 285's. If that's the case, get some billies, save yourself some money, and call it a day because it really doesn't matter. If you're goal is to do 80mph in the desert, sure, go Icon Stage 4.

No UCA and I'm running a spacer lift that came with the truck. I have a pair of adjustable billies with 887 coils but won't go on the truck until I have the UCA's. I have a AAL for the rear from @HeadStrong Off-Road but need rear shocks for that. I refuse to jack with the suspension until I have it all ready to go so I can take it straight to the alignment shop

Although I won't be offroading often or that intense I still would like to get something a bit over the top for my situation incase in the future I plan on doing more. Right now, yes, I just want to be able to fit 285's easier and have a solid suspension/lift as I will be taking it offroad here and there mostly dirt roads, nothing fast though

So I'd bet that your alignment is pretty out of spec. Again, I only say this because I was in the same mind set as you are when I first put on my 285's only to find myself eating my own words. At first, I had my lift with stock UCA's and was only rubbing slightly. I got an alignment and was rubbing a little worse, but no where near as bad as I was reading in most threads so I was also wondering why everyone made such a big deal about rubbing with 285's. After a month or so and some wheeling trips, I noticed I wasn't rubbing at all. I ended up picking up a set UCA's and decided to get an alignment reading before putting them on, waaaayyyy off. Installed UCA's and got an alignment immediately after, at this point I couldn't even turn the wheel completely without being stopped by the body mount.

Your experiences could be different and I'm not saying you're wrong, but just letting you know what I went through so there are no surprises.

Well then a stage 4 Icon setup is way overkill unless you're also after that Icon bling in your wheel well. Icon's/Kings/Fox shocks won't help make fitting a 285 in your wheel well any easier aside from the weight reduction in your wallet. Honestly, save yourself $1500 and just get OME nitrochargers, springs, leaf pack, and some Built Right UCA's (best budget UCA IMHO). You'll achieve the same lift you're aiming for and your ride will be comfortable for daily driving and more than capable when you do decide to go off road. Your truck and your money, so do what makes you happy.

As far as wheels go there seems to be way too many options. I like the matte jet black look, nothing too flashy. Thinking of method or scs although scs seems to be backordered in many options. Any recommendations for the 4.5 backspacing?

Run the same set up by Maria @HeadStrong Off-Road and see if she can do better.

Do you have pictures of your trimming? I'm in the process of trimming mine and am looking to see what and where.

    Huh?

I run 285's on an Icon stage 5. No rubbing.

Idiots and wheel weights? I run 16's. Guess what. No problems there.

I suggest you do a little more reading. :)

I run 285's on Fox 3" lift and I have fender flare trimming and body mount cuts and I still rub... You may not be rubbing on the street but you take it off road and turn the wheel half way where its closes to the body mount you WILL rub. Then again I've had the wheel stuffed all the way to the top of the wheel well where it cut the wheel well on the pinch welds. I run 16's and NTB stack the weights( alot of weights for E rated tires)to balance and I've been in 3 times the last 4,000 miles to get them rebalanced.

I ran 285's on my OME lift with no rubbing. I've been on multiple trails where a front tire was off the ground so I've hit max flex many times. Guess what....it never rubbed. Maybe I was just lucky. I don't know.

Now with my Icon lift it rubs when I look at it. It's currently getting aligned now. I'm hoping adding more caster will push the tire away from the cab mount where it barely rubs - one side only.
