OR is available in the longbed, I have one.

You get painted rear bumpers in both sport and OR when you get the tech package.

I don't think I have ever seen a thread on this before, has anyone else? The sport will handle mild off roading no problem. Go drive them both and see what you prefer, not someone on the internet on the other side of the country.

Agree with the small amount of OR owners that actually OR but buy it for the masculine image (especially with KO2's)...

You can take an OR anywhere you can take a Sport, not so much the other way around. You can always add a locker to a Sport, crawl control not so much at least easily.

    Both cost the same.

OP your on a forum where >70% of members have the OR. So yes your going to get more love for the OR here. Most have never even driven the Sport.

    Real world differences.

-OR is more designed for Off-Road (Obviously) It has smaller wheels with thicker sidewall tires for for rougher terrain. Softer Bilstein shocks to absorb larger bumps. Exclusive electronics like the Crawl control and E-Locker. IMHO Crawl control is great for noobs who are just getting into off roading and really want the truck to take over. Otherwise it's useless. The E-Locker is the part that's nice to have. Can't get that on any other model and while you can buy air lockers, for someone who doesn't want to mod the shit out of their truck, it's nice to have OEM.

-Sport is more designed for street and appearance. Color matched bumpers and fender flares. Aggressive looking hood scoop (yes its not functional I know but people like the look of it). The Hitachi shocks are a more firm ride that prevent sway and body roll. Let's not forget that it also has a sunglasses holder.

So... Is the sport as capable off road as the OR. no its not. That's not to say it's not capable though. I've wheeled my stock Sport in places others wouldn't think of going. The Tacoma in general is a VERY capable Off road vehicle. And the nice thing about them is parts are available and interchangeable. Do you like the looks of the Sport but want the E-Locker? Buy the sport and install ARB air locker. Or buy the OR and trade a member for the sport hood and fender flares. These two trims are designed for different people but both are excellent vehicles.

Crawl control is helpful if you're in deep sand or soft mud. No four wheeling skill is going to control brake and torque independantly on each wheel. That's one of the advantages with crawl control.

You might not use it all the time but it's helpful to have if you ever do need it.

Both are decent trucks marketed to individual tastes but as to value for the dollar, you get more capabilites with the OR.

Sport and Off Road are the same price...

    Pros Sport:
    Fake hood scoop
    Matching rear bumper color

    Pros OR:
    E-Lockers
    Crawl Control
    Multi Terrain Select
Better Shocks (Crap replaced with Fox Shox)
Kevlar Tires (Crap Replaced with KO2's)
8.8 Diff vs the 8.0 in sport

The E-locker and the 8.8" diff alone is why I got an Off Road. Roughly $1500 to install air lockers later.

You have this all wrong... Let me fix that

    Pros Sport:
    -Aggressive looking hood scoop
    -Color matched fender flares
    -Color matched bumpers
-17" wheels (Because bigger is better)
-Better tires (longer lasting and better fuel economy)
-air dam (less drag = better fuel economy)
-Better shocks for less body roll
-Sunglasses holder (Cause everyone needs one)

    Pros OR:
    -Crawl Control
    -E-Locker
    -shit tires
-shit shocks (because you know everyone has replaced them, just look at the marketplace)
    -shit gas mileage
    - Where the F*** do you put your sunglasses

The sport is the only model available (in the US) with the v6, access cab, 4 wheel drive, and a manual transmission; for me that was the only choice. But access cab and manual transmission are the least popular configurations so I doubt many others will care.

Good points here. I do like the scoop myself, although a lot of people hate on it.

So basically everyone with a sport is going to say the sport is better
and everyone with an OR is going to say the off road is better

Haha you got me at the sunglasses holder. The one option Id probably use the most so I just hang mine from the visor.

What are your plans for the truck? You plan on putting the truck on trails with rocks or the most it will see is dirt? I'm not sure what the definition of mild off roading but sounds like sport will work fine for you.
