Tacoma 6" rough country lift upgrading suspension

This is my 2014 taco so far all I've done is the 6" rough country lift. Starting a fresh forum for anybody who's looking in to similar kits or who has done one and upgraded from it or looking to upgrade it like me. the lift is essentially just blocks on the rear leaf springs and a spacer I front that mounts above the stock suspension, doesn't do much as far as travel goes. The front is slightly higher than the back so if anyone didn't think I was already high beaming them at night time they do now, not to mention the leafs are just about straightened out and aren't as forgiving as they used to be. I could do the add a leaf but I'm looking for a spring that will give me the lift a need so I can ditch the blocks. Online I've found a selection but most of the forums around here recommend custom alcan leaf springs and don't cover any others. Any questions/suggestions?

 

Looks great! But your description of the mod sounds like a very bad idea.

 

Thanks I never really looked into the head lamp housing sounds like I should.

McFly why does it sound like a bad idea to swap out leaf springs? I was thinking that would be an easy start for a softer ride.

Looks good! I'm looking at the similar 4" lift for my 16', Any concerns with the kit, it looks pretty well designed. Do you have any better pictures of the brackets installed.

 

While it looks good, what you describe here is a low quality terrible lift kit. This is not how you lift your Taco. Go with your plans to shit can those blocks then get rid of the front spacers. Basically... start over.

 

Well like crosis stated its not the best lift on the market but then again any drop bracket lift isn't gonna be all that different. If you're just going for looks it will be fine but you're ride quality won't be the same. I do like the skid plate that came with the 6" lift. I would recommend custom alcan leaf springs so you don't even need to bother with the blocks and stock taco springs that suck to begin with.

So, what did you end up going with?

 

I have the 6" rough country recently ordered alcan leaf springs with 6.5 lift under 250 pounds of added equipment/tool weight. Haven't got them in yet busy with hunting season and work but im planning on getting to it before the snow falls. That and the fluid film undercoat I do every year.

 

And then I'll focus on front end, uniball uca's and 6" shocks/coil overs.

And of course the Method Wheels look great on anything.

 

Truck looks awesome. I love my method wheels. Looking at the rough county 3+2 inch lift now with diff drop spacers and rear shocks.

 

Was wanting one for my 16 but everyone is scaring me away from rough country. How is it holding up after 2 years?, if you still have the truck. Everyone says it's junk and it will fall apart. I won't be jumping ramps with it

 

Still holding up fine I bought custom leaf springs because the stock ones are junk and were straight/flat under zero load. (The blocks in the kit we’re only 4”) Like I said before it’s not as smooth on the road but it’s the most affordable way of gaining good clearance and looks nasty. The second generation kit requires 17 inch wheels it’s probably the same for the new one too I’d assume. I don’t do any high speed wheeling but she can crawl right through decent mud holes, people on here are pretty picky but every stranger I meet tells me I have a sick truck.

 

More recent picture with 6.5” springs in back. Those were about just as much as the kit costs. if I did it again I might just start with those and a better front suspension but that’s thousands of dollars to spend all at once.

 

I'm looking at installing this kit onto my 2015. Problem is that I already have 5100's + Eibach springs. The 5100's are set at the second notch and yield about 2" of lift on the front. Do you think I could use them with the 6" kit and perhaps use a smaller strut spacer? Or could I run the 6" spacer anyway? I have seen people crank their adjustable coilovers in addition to a 6" DB lift, so I'm wondering if my situation is similar.
