I would have retired in about 8 months if I stayed in. Lol. But my plan was all jacked after I got stuck at e5. Plan was to be at least eligible for e-7 at 10 years then go warrant officer and finish out 20-25 yrs with a decent retirement. No regrets though. I'm doing fairly well for not having a back up plan

Cant handle the way the military promotes. Way too many people in positions they do not belong. Sick of the whole "blanket punishment" bs.

I am going back to welding, did my 6 years.

The only thing that pissed me off were the people that got automatically promoted after they couldn't do it on their own. The captain on the ship could promote 2 of each rank per year and they were all the suck asses.

In the great ol USAF, all you have to do is score high enough on a 200 multiple choice test. CONGRATS! you move up a step.

at E6 you stand before a board if you score high enough and higher ups question you, if you're always in the office around them, you have all of the face time with them that you need to get your leg up. In my job (maintenance) the real work is done on the flight line, not the office, but they are the ones who get recognized for our work

I hear that about working the line and the members in the office get the credit. Just like we got a guy sitting in the office everyday but hey let's tdy him. Seems like a good idea to me

Navy was the slightly different. Take the test and score high. Then they add points for Evals and awards and time of service. Then they take the top however many. As a firecontrolman ( weapons systems- not fire ) e6 was hard to get for anyone, unless you were a suck ass. The navy is flooded with e-5s. Partly because e4 was a freebie. I chose that rate because of the $20k sign on bonus and $30k reenlistment. Had I known e6 would be locked up, I would have gone into the nuclear rates.

If I remember correctly, he just left for a deployment and I don't think he is making these kits any longer. I believe he made my bed and hood kit with the last supplies he had
