It definitely works best with the tent mounted up high (above cab level) because there is more room to move around under the tent floor. There is some Velcro inside the annex walls to shorten it for lower set-ups, but I would imagine that it becomes a major challenge/pita if it's too low. My tent is mounted above my cab so the annex works out great.

Yeah, I only set up the annex if we're staying in the same place for more than one night. It's really not that difficult or time consuming, I just don't see it as a necessity for one night.

I have the Mt. Shasta Standard it fit my 2 kids and wife. A little crowded but still had a little wiggle room. I have the overland bars also but haven't tried annex yet.

Had a bit of a two story camper going on this weekend. My dad and I went on a mountain bike / camp trip over the weekend, he got the tent and my 5'8 frame actually fits just fine in bed of the short box. This set up worked super well actually! Anybody ever done this?

I have the Mt. Shasta standard as well. There's plenty of room for the wife + our 50 lb dog. Visiting the showroom was very helpful to get an idea of the useable space. Setting up the annex on the overhang model is far easier than the standard model.

We do the double decker thing from time to time. My daughters are in college and when they break away to go with us, they sleep on a platform that I built under my Bestop.

MT stuff, RTT stuff, the usual.
Why not just share the tent and not worry about the bed of the truck?

It's an Ayer model (smallest model) and after a few hard days on the MTB it's nice not to share the tent haha. Ayer works just fine for you and your significant other, it's an intimate setting haha.

So......I decided to go custom rack for the RTT. For now, I ordered the mounting brackets front Frontrunner, so I'm waiting for those to mount on the roof. I've been going nuts trying to find someway of mounting it over my bed, while keeping use of my roll-n-lock. I found nothing without custom work. I even looked into the Frontrunner rails and the brackets they have but the slabs aren't long enough. I am debating on just getting someone to make the slabs. My other choice was this local company Proline4x4. They actually have a decent rack that looked like it could work. I went to the place, great help in person, and the fabricator told me that anything could be done, with time and money. We talked about permanently placing the brackets on the edge, side top rails of the truck...which eh, but w/e. It would be about 2 to 3in. I told them I would think about it and give them a call back. I called the next day, spoke to the gentleman that helped me when I went in person. He said that he would have to talk it again with the fabricator cause he was going out of town so he wasn't sure when he could actually do it. I waited 2 days with no return call. Called back to find he was out to lunch. I left my name and number to have the sales guy call me back. Again, 2 days no return call. I called the following day where the gentleman answered. He remembered who I was and my truck. When I told him I was still waiting for his call back, he said for what? I laughed. Oh, he said he forgot. He then told me the guy wasn't going out town. Great news. That he was going to talk to him and give me a call back...I'm still waiting. So...I decided to go complete custom. I got my design in my head. I'm going to have it permanently installed. My neighbors hate me already. I'm in the market for a fabricator/welder to bring my project to life. Going to a couple local places. Wish me luck. I hope it works out.

I lost around 6 mpg with my KB Voodoo Tall rack and RTT. I went to Vegas from LA a few months ago with no rack or RTT and I was getting around 22 mpg there and back. I just came back from Vegas again with the full set up and I got around 16 mpg. I'll definitely be taking off the RTT for longer non-camping trips from now on.

I've got a buddy with one of their hard shells... It's awesome for what it is! If their soft shell tents are anything close in quality, than I am sure they are pretty sweet. Personally, I think the best part is the window design.

Haha was just laughing because I get 12 and don't care. There's so many people on here that get upset when they lose an MPG or two, wasn't sure if thats what you were going for lol. No biggie lol!
