I have reason to believe that I'm getting the run around on getting this TSB accomplished. Dropped the truck off for scheduled appointment (Centennial Hills Toyota, Las Vegas) at 12:30 and I'm told 4 hours later that theres nothing wrong with my truck and this TSB 77-16 only applies to certain vin #'s. The tech also told me that my V6 OR does not have enough torque as the 4 cylinder (still scratching my head on that one) to go up inclines like normal.

Anyone have a good dealership recommendation in So Cal?

When I manual shift , giving it all she has , she seems to miss 1 to 2nd sometimes [like it is a real manual trans and I miss 2nd and go into nuetral] then she finds it and goes . Ever had that problem ?

That is basically how mine has acted in automatic. Has been like it 5000 miles after new, it went away for 1500 miles after TSB done late July, then returned and remains like it today. That is the only issue I have and it does the same sometimes from 2 to 3. I really thought low fluid was the culprit so they topped it off when it was 1 qt low in mid July. That did not fix it. A week later the original TSB came out and fixed that issue for only 1500 miles. It did have the P to D and R to D delay that is still fixed since TSB. I think you are the first other person I have read having this issue. When using ECT this issue does not occur.

I have heard that the sport shifter mode doesn't work like a tiptronic shifter. I have noticed that the Tacoma will not rev at the redline area like a true manual would. Instead it shifts thinking we are not paying attention and finds the appropriate gear. I can't say I have noticed the shift to neutral, but I have noticed the skipping of a gear to compensate for my lack of attention to the need to upshift.

When you guys say delayed up shift during cruise control, does this mean that your trucks are staying in a low gear after climbing a hill? Just took a trip and felt like once I would reach the peak of a hill my tranny would take 8-10 seconds to shift up(my 2nd gen did the same thing). Also, the tranny in cruise control would actually come close to red line on steep hills(my 2nd gen did NOT do this)... are these symptoms or am I being paranoid?

Same here, but my MPG remains very good. I think the only choice we have is to wait this out. Or if one can't stand the wait, sell, and try another vehicle. Personally, this is my 4th Taco, I'm going to wait this out. Every Taco I've had, had issues. And Toyota came through with fixes. But, my 09 DCSB Off Road, though, bordered on a "lemon" and I had to dump it. Had so many issues that 09!!! My favorite Taco was my 02 DCSB 4by4, 190 HP of fun! My 06 DCSB 4by4 was my 3rd favorite Taco. After I sold my 09 in 11. I was driving a Siverado for a few years, a Jeep for a few years and even went to a Subaru Forester for a while, great Car! I waited and waited for the 3rd Gen and I'm not giving up until it's fixed! This 16 will be my favorite once Toyota addresses the Transmission issues, or not...Love the look of this truck and everything about, so we wait...

According to Toyota they wont do it as I have had some erratic shifting issues and took it in for service....

Hey all! Took my Tacoma in for the 5k mile service (Koons Tysons) this past weekend and explained to them the issues I've been having with the transmission. Also told them about the howling noise I'm hearing, knowing of the plug tsb and hoping they fix it. Got the Tacoma back on Saturday and was told the computer was re-flashed and they ordered plugs for the howling noise. The minute I drove off the lot I noticed a difference. I never had the original cpu update applied so I can't compare anything to that. I'm assuming its the revision but I'm not exactly sure. Anyways, the truck is very responsive...it actually goes when I hit the gas. When the truck is slowing there is no longer a hard shift into a higher gear. Its pretty nice actually. The shifting is very smooth and no longer feels like im towing a space shuttle through a mud pit when I hit the gas.

That sounds exactly how good mine was after the original TSB. Now the wait to see if yours lasts more than 1500 miles. Regarding the previous post about prior gen trucks I totally agree that my 1987, 2000 and 2008 were excellent trucks. Only issues were the dealer repaired frame TSB to the 2000 and 2008. Only issue with the 1987 was the typical 2.2 liter timing chain through the timing cover. That is all the problems I had from those 3 trucks.

The gentleman I spoke with in the Service Dept. (Atkinson Toyota) hadn't heard of the TSB nor was he familiar with the 3rd gen. tranny issues. All the same, I didn't get any pushback on scheduling a ATF check and flashing the ECM. My appointment is for tomorrow morning, I'll know more after that.

Well I hate to tell you this but this late in the game he is yanking your chain. My dealer was oblivious to many new Tacoma issues back in July but they said dealers nationwide knew about transmission problems and mine was the first one they worked on here. TSB came out in July.

Does anyone have a complete full PDF of the updated version Rev1 from Oct, 2016?
The copy posted has "TBD" in many spots for service numbers and software.

My local dealer seemed to be totally unaware of this (including the Serv Manager) - which I find odd. But I printed out the PDF but would really prefer one
that was complete with all of the values....if anyone has that?
