So my last 2 Tacomas have been dclb the only reason being the once a week or every other week I load up the mx bike to head to the track, just makes life so much easier than when I had a dcsb. The rest of the week lets be honest it's sometimes a bear to have to park, maneuver, etc. a longbed and from an off-road standpoint I'd rather have the shorter wheel base.

So I've been offered the opportunity to buyback/trade my current truck and been looking at a dcsb off-road with the goodies (tech package). My hesitation lies in a short bed and if I'd hate it the once a week or so I haul the bike to the track, which I doubt as I see plenty of guys with shortbeds. I don't want an accesscab just because of resale and cab room. So those that have a sb and ride would love you advice/thoughts.

You might need to a bit more creative with your mounting and packing, but there should be no MAJOR issues.

:goingcrazy::goingcrazy: Warning. Warning. Proceed with caution.

Everybody gets offered buybacks/trade 'opportunity'. Even my '04 Highlander. The offering party is looking out for their best interest, not yours. You'd have the same opportunity next month, even w/o an 'offer'.

I'm sure you know that, but just keep it all in perspective.

My old truck was a true long bed, my current Tacoma is what Toyota calls a long bed and I wish it was longer. 2 bikes is tight, 3 bikes and I opt to haul my 5x10 enclosed trailer instead. Factor in the times you have to haul things for home repair; how do you fit a full sheet of plywood or a couch in a short bed? I guess my point is, I personally wouldn't go with a short bed.

Though I appreciate the hassle of having to park a longer truck; I try to take my wife's Prius any time streets or parking will be tight, and it's a dream in tight quarters compared to my truck. ;)

Yep I know just long term dealer relationship not getting hosed but also the fiscal conservative should keep my current truck.

what about a small trailer? Knowing that I was going to a short bed, I picked up a trailer to customize for our needs.

If you've had five Tacoma's, surely you know the answers to your bed and hauling questions.

I have a small 5x10 wedge nose enclosed cargo trailer with A/C that I use when either we have a number of bikes, or when it's really hot out (sitting in A/C between motos is GREAT!). We also camp in it on occasion and chain the bikes up outside (A/C at night is also GREAT!). On the up side, the space is great, and it's nice to be able to stop at rest stops without having to watch your truck every second since the bikes aren't visible. The down side is your mileage is horrendous and you can't drive as fast, plus I'm sure it doesn't do any favors for the life of the truck. The trailer is light, probably near 2000# loaded, but it's like dragging a parachute. Plus the whole expense of owning/maintaining it. Even with the trailer, I would still personally not opt for the short bed.

You need to spend more money. Get a 2017 DCSB 4x4 and stick with it for 5+ years. Add a three bike trailer to your posse and you have all weekend options covered. Done.

I went a different route this time around. My bikes aren't pictured.

I load my bike in no problem and have plenty of room for all my gear and gas can when I go to the track. I was in the same boat, I wanted a long bed because of the dirt bike but then though when the hell else will I need it? The answer was never so I went with the short bed. I haven't regretted it yet. I have had two bikes in the back as well and worked out great.

Really old photo from when i first got it but you can see how far it goes on the gate. The bikes a CR125

So you're trading for another 3rd gen? I know you were talking about going back to 2nd gen at one point.

Riding bud has DCSB, he gets 3 bikes in there no problem, it is tight...but it works.

I went the trailer route 15 years ago, and never looked back. Bikes practically load themselves. Think I took the topper off for a couple weeks, and used the bed...and thought...well this sucks. Went back to the trailer.
