So, kid flooded the upstairs bathroom in the master last Weds. It's above the garage & laundry room, water was coming out of the ceilings.

Cleaned up best I could, ventilated room, and jetted to SD because my wife had to have surgery last Thursday.

Got home last night and master smells funky funky, had to call and make a claim. Let's see how this goes....

Make sure you get that taken care of properly. If you get mold growing in there it won't be fun.

Yup. Cut out all the wet drywall out. I would add another foot around it to be safe. The get bleach/water mix and spray everything.

To be honest he would be better off doing a claim on insurance and having a pro company come in with the proper tools. I worked at a building that got mold and we tried everything to stop it. Ended up calling a company who came out with huge ozone machines and a bunch of tools. Took almost all the drywall out of the building.

My wife and I both use computers for work. We aren't avoiding screens all the time, just around the kids. Mine are little and sometimes come home from elementary school with computer based homework, if that happens this week, we will allow it. Young kids get so focused on the TV and games that they sometimes forget how to kid. We have always limited TV and iPad time, but I think even we have gotten lazy about it recently. There is a chores list that my son has to do before he can even ask to play on the xbox, but sometimes he gets overly upset when he doesn't get those things done in time to play.

So, we figured we would try a week of no screens (around the kids). My wife and I are leaving our phones in our bedroom so that we aren't distracted by them either. I love the xbox and TV, I have a Walking Dead to watch while the kids are at school, but I think the family time is more important and that it is to easy to slowly let technology take that away from us. The weather is awesome and so are their toys and games, they will survive.

My wife has even suggested continuing this Monday through Thursday going forward. Limiting TV and gaming to the weekends only.

Yeah they're here now. Water mitigation company, then a contractor tomorrow. They're drilling holes in everything looking for mold now

The neighbors have a 2 kids (6, and 9) and both of them don't get to watch TV, play on their iPads, or play video games during the week. If they get to it's limited to 1 hour and its because they did something good and that's a treat. On the weekends they get 2 or 3 hours depending on what is going on.

Their parents do not want them to get addicted to video games/tv. Outside on their bikes all the time, playing catch, whatever. They almost have no friends because all the other kids are always inside playing games.

With homework, church, dance, and everything else these kids do, there isn't much time for it during the week. But they get fixed on it and upset if we don't watch tv during dinner or something. It's the attitude of the the 9 yr old that we are trying to curve mainly. Also to prevent the other two from getting it.

DO NOT use bleach and water, it will not neutralize all of the mold or spores that are already forming.

Story - Our new home had a water leak upstairs because the idiot plumber didn't seat the toilet ring before tightening the toilet down. We ended up with black mold in the space between the garage and upstairs bath. The builder had a professional company come out and abate the mold.

When I asked the guy about the mold treatment, he said bleach is ineffective against mold and spores and they use a product that utilizes peroxide instead.

Just wanted to share that experience.

Three things I don't fuck with if I want it done right:

    Mold
    Interior drywall in living areas
    Electric
