It's less Tacoma and more mod
Rear bumper would be nice but I don't have the time to build one right now. I was sort of counting on the Dakars loosening up but they really won't quit, it's been three years and they are still just as stiff as ever. So now I've gotta manually take the piss out of them and pull some leaves I'm thinking two will do the trick and I'll swap one of the healthier take offs to the drivers side to even out the lean.

No not yet. Maybe this week. I just finished taking the lift off my moms tacoma. Rides great.

You haven't abused them enough. As in fully loaded and flexing them a lot.

Keep the leafs. You'll need them later.

$289 from Toyota of Dallas. Spending $130 more for another 15 years sounds a hell of a better deal than going cheaper.

I have the same pack, they were stiffer than a honeymoon pecker at first but settled down with lots of wheeling and a full time load of whatever in the bed, that changes for the seasons, water vs sandbags.
Pulling a leaf will make them ride closer to a caddy, but it will sag pretty bad under a load, so I put the leaf back in and never looked back.

I'm repping the same springs as you. I pulled the third from top spring to soften the ride and take away some of the gigantic lift they put on the truck. Shit is still pretty firm unless it has some weight. Before I took a spring out my lady and I bought a truck load of compost....wow it rode like butter with 800 lbs in the back!

True but I don't know what's a better alternator than OEM, I'm sure you know how to answer this one. But hopefully it won't run way to hot to burn this:

That looks like the alt post had corrosion and caused resistance.

Or more likely that nut on the alt charging post was loose and caused resistance.

Was the alt tested before being replaced, just curious?

It's not a mod. It's the factory designated position. Toyota likely did not come up with the designed running temp or specify the "6 o'clock" position without a little thought. Is this a huge issue, no but an issue none the less.

Another thing that probably wouldn't matter much to flatlanders is boiling point vs altitude. It drops about 1deg per 500'. At 13K straight water with a leaky radiator cap boils below 190.

The OEM alternator went out, ran my battery dry when I was heading to college. Bought a O'Reilly's brand that same day and replaced it. No corrosion on the post since it was brand new.

Nut was also pretty tight when I removed it just last week. The alternator was tested but my battery indicator light came on at certain times while the truck was running. The Ultragauge also said my battery was getting a constant 11.7-12.2 volts while this happened.

11.7-12.2v is nothing at all, definitely defective.

Hopefully, you get what you are looking for with 'peace of mind' with the OEM.

However, that is a lot of $ for a very low output. For that kind of money, you can get 2 140 amp GM alternators that will mount right onto the v6 with a few modifications.
