Should I buy slightly rusty Tacoma from Canada?

Anyone have experience with buying a used Tacoma from Canada, guess the exchange rate is really encouraging people to offload vehicles for the US market. My main worry is about the rust I've seen on these and if toyota will still honor the rust recall if it's been manufactured for Canada.

About the vehicle - 2008 Tacoma double cab long box. This is second tacoma i've looked at from canada and both had a lot of rust in the engine compartment (see photo). Is this normal?

True, but if it's rusty there - how much worse will frame be? I'm also having a mechanic inspect this, so hopefully they give me some good answers.
Isn't there a recall on this that I could get the frame replaced by toyota?

Here is the best photo they sent me of frame...

Looks like part of the frame had some coating put on it...

Why would you risk it with the known rust issue?

Well I'm just trying to determine just how big of a risk i'm taking here! The price is right, and it's a hard to find model, can't avoid salt in the north!

I'd pass on that one. Patience is your best pal when looking for a used Taco that isn't rotting away.

    Too few to list.
Definitely need more pictures of the frame. Lots of areas where rust can be.
Just looking at the picture below, I'd be concerned where the red is as I see some bubbling from the frame due to rust.
Also the green is where I've seen it tends to rust and weakens the leaf mounting point.

I would continue to look. I passed up a great deal on a less rusty 09 and spent alot more on a clean (rust free)12. I am very happy I passed on the rust.

Yeah if They sent you a pic of the frame they probably took a photo of the best looking part, who knows what the worst of it looks like. Good idea to pass

"Rust" and "buy" should never be in the same sentence.

Doesnt look that bad to me. A little Fluid Film and you could be set.

Then again, it doesnt say Socal or GA under my name so my opinion differs.

Ok thanks for all the help! I am having a mechanic look at this as well, so I'm assuming he'll be able to identify just how serious these issues with the frame and rust are so that I can decide if the risk is worth it. Maybe you guys from socal and georgia can find a rust free dbl cab long box for me?? :)

If that level of rust is on the outside, what could be on the inside of the frame? I'd pass.

Arizona is the Promised Land for rust free Tacomas. My '04 originated from there, completely rust free after 12 years.
