Just FYI, Toyota won't warranty the frame in the US -- that offer has expired.

For Canada, the vehicle has to be privately owned for min 30 days, and registered IN CANADA to fall under the criteria for the frame replacement. The offer expires December 31 2016.

If you import to to the US, it will be US registered and not meet the criteria for the Canadian frame replacement program.

Also, call a Canadian dealer and have them pull the maintenance records. The frame inspection will show up under the VIN number if it has already been inspected this year. IF it has passed[this year], then there isn't much to worry about anyways.

From the photos, it does not look that bad.

The truck I just bought looks far worse, but I will be getting a new frame.

If you're willing to fly out, might be in your best interest to look at the trucks in CA, AZ, TX, etc..

Man, you boys from fair weather states live a salt protected life. lol
This is what my truck looks like every winter. When I'm low on salt in the house for dinner, I just go scrape a little off the truck.

    And this isn't that bad.

True that man, the sodium chloride shit they use here in Ohio sucks ass. My 2011 has lots of rust including my all-pro front bumper I put on almost 2 yrs ago, which was metal prepped, primered, and got 2 coats of color.

Look into buying a truck from British Columbia, I'm almost 100% sure, the cars are rust free.

moondeath that is one beautiful truck! Even with the salt on it!

I really appreciate all the feedback I got, I had the mechanic inspect it and there were a lot of other problems besides rust with this truck, so the search will continue!

My next question for you guys - where can I search for the truck I'm looking for online nationwide? I used car guru and found a few nice ones in Georgia. I'd like to at least start out rust free!

I use cars.com and autotrader.com most of the time. Craigslist is kind'a sketchy.

I bought my truck and the next day I got approval for a new frame. About 16 hours to be exact.

As for the people saying "don't buy" look where they live.

Surface rust is nothing, I'd definitely want to see more pictures, but from what I see it looks typical of just about any truck a few years old here that hasn't been rust proofed.

    Beware of rust belt areas
I had a 98, sold to a friend the frame rusted out about 11/2 years ago and it had passed to 2 frame inspections.
My 2000 failed over 3 years Toyota bought it back probably crushed it so now someone's toaster.
Have an 05 now failed and frame replace around 11/2 years ago.

Yeah I think I'll stick with Georgia for my search, everywhere else in the south just has prerunner. I did call Toyota and they said they can run any vin to tell me if truck is eligible for the frame replacement, but I'd rather avoid the hassle entirely.

I'm not seeing any real rust problems. surface rust is normal for a northern truck. wash it once in a while and park in a heated garage and it won't rust.
