I'm right there with you, but in Ohio. I'm still calling it the third week in November like he was back in 2013

I'm in the same boat but in KY, I've barely been in the woods because it's too hot. Modern gun is 12-21, hope to fill the first tags, and maybe a second set during that time.
Prefer to do it with my long bow, but, meat is meat and I'm HUNGRY for the hunt!

Mornings are finally getting nice and cool here in Virginia. Went out Friday afternoon with my bow - didn't see anything until I decided to climb down for the night and walked out of the woods and into the field where I see 3 does and 2 bucks, obviously out of bow range. Saturday morning I went out with my muzzle loader and only saw 1 deer - a smaller 6 point whop was moving with a purpose. I grunted at him and he didn't even stop or look up at me. Saturday evening I went back out but decided to try another spot, a spot in the woods where I could also see the fields around me. As I was walking to my stand I saw two massive, and very fresh, scrapes. I had a feeling it was going to be an exciting night. I am glad I picked the tree to climb I did, because sure enough, I see 3 does exiting the woods and coming into the field behind me. I decided I would climb down and try my luck staked out behind a round bale of hay in the field for the last hour of shooting light. Two bucks came out of the woods in to field in front of me (about 200 yards away) and started fighting! It was really exciting to see. The larger, older buck "won" and chased the smaller, younger buck back into the woods. The winner was a nice 6 point, not a lot of mass (really pretty thin rack) but pretty tall and about 18" wide. After he cruised the field for awhile, I put my cross-hairs on his front shoulder, but at 160 yards, I decided I wasn't going to take the shot. I watched the sun go down over the cornfields in front of me and the mountains in the distance, and I called it a night. Overall, it was a great night of hunting.

Sorry for the long-winded post, and for the non-archery related parts!

    back to bone stock.
i'm considering going with a left hand bow.

    reasons:
    1. my left eye is dominant and a billion times stronger
    2. my right shoulder has had just about enough of this BS.

    i will go with a HOYT carbon 34 @ 60lbs.

Go for it! It will suck obviously at first as you frustratingly fight muscle memory you've set in for a lifetime but it will pay off in the end in many ways. I've learned that doing things with your non dominate hand will not only make you better with the other, it will develop more areas of the brain. (Bro science). But really, having to break down how you shot with your right hand while translating to your left will improve your form and understanding of it. I went through this process many times learning to play golf, disc golf, darts, etc. I chose to do so to help with my drumming weirdly and it really did help. Luckily I was already semi ambidextrous since I naturally write with my left hand and throw and shoot right handed. I'm not really either eye dominant because I can shoot with either hand although I rarely do. Sorry if this is winded. Just wanted to let you know you can definitely do it with some work and patience. Good luck!

I hear a lot of talk of people potentially selling their bows. I am in the market to get my girlfriend into it.

Pm me if you are selling

Here's a picture history of my first archery deer. Got him the day after my birthday. I've been shooting bows my whole life, but didn't do much bow hunting till about six years ago. Since then I've shot a few hogs but no deer yet. I hunt public land, so no staring at feeders or shooting pet critters. We've got a low success rate around this part of the world. Last season was especially tough. I took off every Friday of October and November and spent three day weekends up in a tree for two months straight. This year I took it easy and tried to enjoy the time outside more.

Week before Thanksgiving I did this at 30 yards...
    20161117_165610.jpg

Then two days later I did this at 18 yards, he went 40 yards after the shot. I was up high in a tree, so entry on this side is high and exit is low on the other side, double lung. The arrow went straight through and stuck in the ground where he walked. I took the shot right in front of a tree with a cam on it. Unfortunately, the only pics on the cam were of nothing unusual (he must have activated the motion sensor before making it into the FOV of the camera) and then of my arrow in the ground. I was a bit bummed I didn't get the action on camera, but ecstatic to get my first deer with a bow.
    20161119_151302.jpg

Then two days after that I began processing him.
    20161121_131025.jpg

Then a few days ago while out camping I tested some burgers I made. 70% venison 30% bacon ends and pieces, all ground together. I think I'll do some backstraps this weekend.:drool::drool:
