Prop 63 won't take effect until Jan 2018. We have another year before it takes effect.

Yeah they had Lt Gov Newsom being interviewed and he was saying how this is the start of the downfall of the NRA and saying for more people to come to California because "we get it". Yeah, just what we need, more Libs.

Yeah, still shitty it's going into effect at all, and all the AR shit too.

Yea, the AR was always going to happen in due time, regardless. This Liberal state doesn't have enough support in SF/LA to have that freedom. It sucks. But I don't live here solely because of the gun laws. I have my collection, it's enough for me and I can modify to accommodate the laws.

I think you should definitely get one. I shoot quite a bit, and conceal carry a .40 or 9mm depending on my needs for the day. Like you said, even a basic XD or Smith&Wesson will do the trick. My first polymer framed S-Auto was a Glock 22 .40S&W my dad used while on duty as a police officer before he retired it for a H&K .45...... I recommend going to any reputable sporting goods store and holding a few you like... and asking the gun guys behind the counter every question you can think of. On top of that, some ranges allow you to "rent" firearms like the common Springfield XD series or any of the other brands. It's never too late to get back into the shooting world, and with the new laws taking affect every year it seems like the chances of getting a sweet gun is getting smaller and smaller. Hope this helps!

Can also check out IDPA as well, heard it's some good fun, never participated myself.

Always too busy and they hold matches on Saturdays (one of my work days).

ah. I do believe I'll accelerate my plans to acquire said pistol.

home defense, and extreme wildlife is my primary driver.

I've got videos of a 100 lb mountain lion jumping my back fence....

the bright string is 3' off the ground, the top of the fence is 6' high, and the ground slopes off a few inches from the bottom fo the fence to where he leaps from.

I inherited a handgun from my dad. Colt 1911 Combat Elite. It came fully setup for competition shooting (in the late 80's). Wraparound grip, trigger, competition sights, upswept beaver tail, oversized mag release, and ambidextrous safeties. All Pachmayr. Magazine bumper pads too. I've owned it for almost 20 years. Great for shooting sticks that are leaned up against logs. Sometimes cans on the end of said sticks. Occasionally, broken toaster ovens. Kinda overkill for my purposes.

It's always too late to get into guns. The best time was yesterday and has been for years and years.

    Hop to it.

As a Jr., circa late 1960s, I won the shootout after my hunter safety class in both jr and senior divisions, shooting my remington 531t 22lr bolt action target rifle, with a target shooting sling. I'm not sure I have the motor control I did then.
