Just purchased a 2016 tacoma trd off road. I wanted to get the trd pro exhaust but they weren't able to find one for me that matched my other requests. Is the trd exhaust worth the money? Is there a better after market option? Does it add a decent amount of hp? Thanks!

In my experience, it just adds noise. I'm sure others will disagree.

Yeah it's just about noise and chrome TRD tip.

I am sure you could get a magnaflow or borla for cheaper.

But I am too waiting on the TRD exhaust. Trying to keep everything OEM.

Any actual HP/torque gains will be so small as to be indiscernible anywhere but on a dyno.

Buy it for the sound if that's what you like and it's worth it to you.

I listened to a 2017 TRD Pro and it does sound good, but I'm not sure it'll be worth the cost for me. I have the equivalent sort of OEM "performance" exhaust on my funcar and love the sound when the motor starts singing its happy song at 3k RPM as well as the nice burble coasting down the hill to my driveway. Just not thinking I need that on my Taco though. Today at least.

Thanks guys...i figured there are probably cheaper, more efficient options aftermaket. I do like to keep it OEM bc of warrenty. I just picked up the truck so i dont want to void it

You do know that the warranty isn't an all-or-nothing item, right? If you add an aftermarket component, they can only deny warranty service for something they can show was likely caused by the aftermarket component.

With that said, certainly using the OEM exhaust can reduce the potential of fingerpointing if you have a problem related to the exhaust system (and have a dickhead service department).

^^^ That... and I have a Magnaflow... with a TRD air filter. MUCH better pedal response and better performance as well.

The TRD filter is made by K&N right?

Probably ... cant say for sure looks a lot like a K&N ..I've used them exclusively in all my cars and trucks for the last 30 years.

I purchased a TRD exhaust for my 2007 for $200. Installed it and loved it. It sounded great at idle at wot and getting on the highway. However at 50 mph it's at the top rpm range before it shifts and it's droning in the cab. 1/4 mile from my drive way is a 8 mile county road that is 50mph. Those 8 miles in the morning suck. I dont do 50 to avoid the drone. I even whent as far as sound deadening the rear of the cab. It helped but not a lot. I had my stock exhaust and put it back on and I have to say it's staying on. It still sounds good at wot and on the on the on ramp.
I did see a gain in mpg with the TRD of 1 mph on my scan gauge and there is a felt faster response of the line. The TRD helps the exhaust flow better. Good luck with purchase and the decision to get it or not.

Are there any dyno results from the magnaflow kit?

I'd love to get an aftermarket exhaust for my truck!!! One that's quieter than the current system.

Loosely muffled V6s sound like poop.

I had the TRD exhaust on my 09 double cab and I loved it. I did not see any real gains from it but I loved the sound. I am planning on getting one on my new Tacoma when they finally release it. I think some people have already acquired it on this forum.

Installed TRD exhaust last night. Its louder than I was expecting.

Also, resist the temptation to use an impact wrench on the spring bolts. I busted the crappy little, thin nut off the other side. :)

How much louder? Have you taken it on the highway yet? I haven't been able to hear one in person, but I took a chance and ordered the truck with the TRD exhaust anyway. I'm hoping I don't regret that decision.

It's quiet at 60mph, but you can definitely hear it when you hit the throttle.

    I have a 2012 4.0l so ymmv.

I went from stock to TRD then back to stock cut off after it dumps behind the axle. the TRD had a nice rumble at start up and idle. Nice tone at 40 mph and 60 mph. what I did not like was the sound at the top end of any gear. Low end of the gear low rpm it's nice top end high rpm just a little to loud for me.
