Hey guys just wanted to let y'all know Incase your considering the new TRD intake and exhaust for your 2016/17 Tacomas..so I installed the intake 1st and with my dynomax muffler it sounded great to me. Nice rumble at wide open throttle. So I installed the catback exhaust today and I was excited to see if it was gonna sound even better and to be honest I'm a little disappointed. It looks good with the tip. But if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't do the exhaust at the high price tag. I might even at some point have my muffler guy cutout the muffler and install another dynomax or magnaflow. I"ll try to install pics later. Kinda did this thread on the run to just say if your debating getting this exhaust I would say save some money and go with something else.

Good to know. I have the TRD catback exhaust on order right now...still pondering. I initially ordered it as a factory install when I placed my order for my 2017 TRD Off Road but was told that this particular item could not be factory installed with my order...was told it had to be dealer installed once my truck arrived.

Are you getting the intake as well? I think that's worth the 400 bucks. And easy to install yourself..

I have had the TRD exhaust and the TRD intake on my 2007 TRD SE FJ since I bought it new in Jan of 2007. I have an extra filter for the intake so I keep one clean and just switch it out when it gets dirty. The filters will last the life of the vehicle if you clean it properly. The TRD intakes really don't make a huge difference. In my opinion just get a good filter like a K&N. I do however like the TRD exhaust. I have 75,000 miles on my FJ and the exhaust still sounds nice and is in great shape. I do have a 2017 TRD Off Road Tacoma ordered in Quicksand with tech package and I will be putting the TRD exhaust on it. I probably will do a K&N filter instead of the TRD one.

Can you explain what the intake changes and why it is worth it?

I'm not sure the engine sounds good enough to justify an exhaust upgrade...

I didn't dyno before and after with each part. The intake seems to make the sound turned up some..almost like if your volume is on number 3 and you turn it up to a 6..with the dynomax muffler and the intake it had a better rumble. Now with the TRD exhaust you hear mostly engine noise..maybe it needs a break in period, I didn't think about that. Also it says it improves lower end torque and horsepower and maybe so. For the application we use our Tacoma's for like weekend warrior towing..light freight towing.. off-road use and rock crawling stuff I guess low end power is needed. On the highway I was at 70 mph and I needed to pass some slower drivers and got up to 90 mph and never went above 4 rpm and it wasn't like I slowly got up. I gave it some gas. Came back down to 80 mph and the needle settled at just above 2 rpm..so close I would just call it 2 rpm. so I think it for gives it better throttle response. Or guys I could just be full of crap. and I can't tell you wether it's the intake or the exhaust or the combination of both that makes a difference. I just think you could save a lot of money if you just bought a performance muffler and a a TRD tip and have your muffler guy install them you would be happy and save money. And I know there's guys on here that are gonna talk smack about why would you do that it's just a Tacoma not a V8..but my answer is why not..it's your truck and your money so do what you want. And yeah you could also save money on the intake and just buy a TRD filter and 1 think I would do is take the air box out and remove the air flow fender wall tube and take a dremel tool and cut the scoop thing off and install it back in to the air box. The 1 that comes with the TRD intake is about 30 percent bigger I would say.
