Paying a mild amount of attention because where I live i'm always going up and downhill all the time and have run a few mountains. Still under 1000 miles driven and averaging a hair above 16 mpg so far.

Yeah you're right I'd still expect you to be getting mid 16s even with the tires.

You've got bigger things to worry about brother, but later might honestly be worth reflashig the ECU and see if "relearning" helps with MPG. I did that after my breakin period and it helped a little, or maybe it was just the extra miles, worth a shot can't hurt.

    Have a safe trip

I only get about 19.5 MPG, I hate it. Came from a 2 door Toyota that got over 30MPG

Has anyone put the front air dam on an Off-Road (Like the ones on the Sport of SR5)? Unless I get in an accident, 99% chance I would not rip it off. Might be worth .25 or .5 mpg increase?

I am getting about 16.7 average with 285/75/17 tires, I did account for the 7% difference in tires size so I getting more miles then what is actually being read on the odo. Mainly freeway speeds 70-80 mph. It is true anything below 70 is closer to or in the 20mpg range.

Just does not have the bottom end torque to push those tires up a very small incline on the free way and that transmission loves 4th gear on the freeway.

I removed my air dam once I added the lift wheels and tires, then I trimmed it and put it back on, It was there for a reason so I am sure it will help either way.

I have the same problem. But on the freeway I get about 17.5 miles per gallon. I heard there is some type of program at the dealership that helps with that and the truck shifting up and down while driving.

How fast are you usually going on the highway and how much is city driving?

10 over speed limit. Currently at 16.2mpg. But even when driving speed limit and easy on throttle, I only get 17.

Is that based on what the truck says or what you've actually calculated with usage?

70+mph on cruise doesn't save gas if that's what you're doing.

I think you should have done more research and reset your expections before your purchase. If you thought you were going to get more than 23mpg out of a stock Tacoma, you were dreaming. I would not be pleased with 19.5, but more information on your vehicle and driving habits are needed to assess how bad your mileage is.

I never got over 18mpg highway in stock form with my truck, and that's a light foot, at posted speeds.
I might see 19-20mpg on secondary roads travelling at speeds between 45-55mph.

I'm not sure what additional research anyone can really do other than to expect that the rated fuel economy is close to what is stated, especially on a new model vehicle.

No offense, but my 3/4 ton quad cab Dodge diesel with AT tires, one size larger than stock, did better on highway posted speeds. My wife's Toyota Prius is spot on relative to the rated mpg. Our old Mercury Milan was spot on the mpg's..

Honestly there is a pretty big disparity with regards to mileage with the new Tacoma. Actual mileage is all over the place if you look at posted user 'actuals'.

Based on what I need a truck for, and how much I travel (I've already got 12,000 miles on the truck in less than 6 months), I may consider selling this and going to a full size truck that get's better mileage and keeping my 98 Cherokee for trail and off road adventures. I was kinda hoping to get a good compromise with the Tacoma, but that appears to not be the case.

Actually the GMC diesel Canyon is looking much more attractive. I may wait a year or two to see some long term reviews of the Baby-Max before I make the switch..

I looked at the GM twins. You are looking at a $5000-$7000 difference in the diesel and a Tacoma. That buys a lot of fuel. Not to mention the loss you will take, trading out of a vehicle so soon. I just traded in a Cruze Diesel. Just like my Tacoma, I didn't get the mileage listed in the window, because I don't drive 60 on the highway. You will get better in the diesel, but don't expect to get 30 like they advertise. Also today's diesel's are very complicated compared to the old diesels. I won't have another diesel again after having the Cruze Diesel. A good alternative is an F150 with the 2.7 ecoboost. I went with the Tacoma over the Ford, because it was less expensive for the same features, and nothing holds it's value better than a Tacoma. I drive 35K a year, and don't want to keep a vehicle past 3-4 years.

I expected to get better fuel economy in the Tacoma, but it is what it is. There must be a huge dropoff after you exceed 60, because of the aerodynamics. The Cruse didn't drop off as much, but it was a little bubble going down the highway with little drag.

This is the best I've gotten I usually have it in the 20mpgs and over 400 miles to the tank. I'm also in a stock TRDPro tacoma 2017. Since it's been cold around here I drive with Windows up and no A/C but with fresh air on through the air vents. I drive pretty conservatively

I've gotten as good as 26mpg on a good day but average 20-21 roughly 350-370 miles on avg per tank and I drive with ECT on all the time. Stock 16 TRD DCLB

    Luck of the draw maybe?

That is nice to know that the extra inch in front doesn't do much to reduce the gas mileage. I am thinking about the pro suspension or similar once my stock parts need replacing.

Well I don't have another Tacoma to compare apples to apples.

I'm only stating it's pretty sad if a Toyota midsize can't perform better or at least on par with a 3/4 ton fullsize pick-up.

Full size truck has bigger motor to get it up and going, now we are talking physics here. And the full size you mentioned was a diesel as well.
