Increase in HP

Hey guys. I was looking for a good relatively inexpensive way to increase HP and make merging on highways easier. I was thinking a K&N intake?...How much is a good price for it? any reviews? any ideas? Thanks!

The link you posted if for 2nd gen, looks like he has a 1st gen.

Cold air intake is a great way to add some mid-range power. K&N makes a good system as long as it is the FIPK2 kit, don't get the one with the aluminum air duct that connects to the throttle body.

All that chrome is worth about 25hp right? how much more could you need?!?!

HP is not cheap. The deck plate mod is the cheapest way to get a few ponnies and a little better throttle response. Other than that you could get some headers, they are not cheap though

 

i agree!! those huge 22" rims are definately reducing your hp.

 

Supercharger

 

None of this option are bad but you may not be that happy at the end. You will get a crisper acceleration but not much horse power gain. At least not enough to make a diference. If is not too much for you pocket??? try to reach for a supercharger. You should be able to get a supercharger for you 1st generation for about $2000.

Thanks fellas, whats your all's take on a turbo charger?? I've been seeing nice looking tc on ebay for around 300.

I took off those 22's. I have OEM 16's painted glossy black with stock 265/70/16's- muuuuch more comfy ride ..I will post updated pics soon. whats the biggest tires I can fit with no rub?

Turbo charger for $300 ?????????/. You really have to post a link on this. A turbo is all most 30% more (complicated, expensive to build) and I can't see somkeone selling one for that much.
You should be able to installed 265/75/ with out any issues. It will fill up the space a little bit more and is like 1/2"-3/4 " taller. Bigger then that and you may rub a little at full turn.

I was thinking about buying this airintake...Will this do a good job increasing HP?...If i put this on can I also do the deck plate mod on top of that too?

 

The deck plate mod will do the exact same thing as that CAI for about $15. Do the deck plate mod instead of the CAI!

 

Do the deck plate mod. I was stupid before I joined TW and got the K@N and IMO its nothing more than a expensive paper weight. But if you have the money do a header, deck plate mod, and a good muffler like a Dynomax super turbo. Then if your still not satisfied go big and get the supergharger. Check out my pics to see what all I have done performance wise to give you an idea.

 

you do realize that is 300 bucks for the turbo. they are not just a bolt on piece. you need everything else to install it. i.e inter cooler,lines,piping, gaskets,etc. so your gonna tie up more than 300 bones.

 

True bcg, I never realized that. I'm going with the deck plate mod. The thread here shows how to do it on a v6. Will the mod be the same with my 4cyl.?(2.7L)..Here are some updated pics too!
