I knew I had a hole in my floor after I bought it and the carpet was wet, but I put off really looking into it until today. Its pretty rough and I don't know where to start and I was looking for suggestions on what to do or maybe how any of you guys handled a similar problem. I was thinking of finding a parts truck and cutting a section off but I didn't have much luck finding one in my area.

Ouch. that looks kinda bad. Maybe look on craigslist, sometimes there are parts truck there. This is what the north east does to our trucks.

Yeah just finished rust preventing the frame and painting it, thought I would check this out, hopefully I can fix it though. At least my frame doesn't look like this.

Can you weld and do minor metal working? if so id focus on that body mount and get that situated. Then id clean all the rust everywhere else and id fiberglass the whole area aswell as under the truck and seal everything up after.

What does NJ need for inspection ??

Does the law state only metal can be used ??

How does the Cab mount look below there ??

No major project to weld some fresh sheet metal in or fix with Fiberglass Resin and Mat

I fixed quite a few both ways

You need to come visit in the Northeast !!

That is considered very minor nothing to get excited about

Pretty much caused by tracking in wet slop that has winter chemicals in then you have the whole freeze and thaw cycle till spring

No problem from what I can see in the photos. You'll need to clean and grind out the rust and patch it. Try a MIG they're easy to learn about on. Also if you can find an earlier wreck with good sheet metal for your Gen 1 body type, you could cut out what you need and do a factory repair.

Keep to steel if you want something clean and original. If it's a beater truck it doesn't matter but if it's a nice truck do a repair that you can show off to car restoration guys and do yourself proud.

If there ever was a reason to buy weather tech mats this is it. All that salty boot slush and shit just soaks into lesser mats

Another alternative is to fix it neatly, toss the carpet, and finish the entire floor in a nice bedliner. www.monstaliner.com for example.

You'll see messes that need cleanup, the metal will be highly protected, and you won't have carpet to keep the crud trapped.

It is just the fact the carpet acts like a sponge and never really drys out till it quits snowing and gets warm.

Unless the truck lives in a heated garage which causes other unique problems

I started to do the bed liner got all the carpet out and insulation just never got around to getting the bed liner that was a few years ago

After watching a couple seasons of Road Kill on YouTube / Motor Trend On Demand this doesn't seem too bad. Good opportunity to start getting the truck dialed in and an intimate knowledge of how it's put together. Still sorry to hear that as it came as an unexpected repair for you. Hope you get it sorted out.

Roadkill is an awesome show but I hate how I have to wait like a month before something comes out on Youtube. Also I have a question, I was reading that you have make a frame under your new floor because the OEM is corrugated thats why it doesn't need one, but I was wondering how thick gauge metal I needed and what the floor frame would look like I guess. I have I think 18 gauge or 16 it might be too thick though I don't know.
