Well, Letang and Dumoulin stopped pirouetting as McDavid's line kept scorching past them. That was nice that they finally decided to keep a decent gap and play actual defense. No discredit to 97 and those guys. His steal on Hagelin to turn it the other way and create an eventual goal, was really something to see. That was a very even and entertaining game. How Rust doesn't score on the wide open cage, early on, I'll never know. Bad bounce, I suppose. Also, big stop by Murray that turned into a big time goal immediately after. It always seems to work that way.

In between Tacomas at the moment.
Coach Todd said it best. The Oilers were playing against the NHL Champs. It requires every player on the team to give it their 100%. Some players did that - ie. McDavid, Ebs...etc. Some did not.
I know the Oilers are playing much better (for now)....but if they could just clean up the BS that they STILL fall back into....they would beat these top teams on a much regular basis. Pouliot is one of those players.......that I want to like. But it's like he can't do anything right this season. He's had some really good moments. But he's also been the main reason for some really bad moments. And this self goal.....in that part of the game.....such a heart breaker.

Ya I can agree with that.

I guess you guys (Oiler's fans) can still be happy that you are ahead of the curve. McDavid is putting up Crosby-like numbers already and he has those other young forwards playing better. You guys have pretty good size and speed as a whole. And Cam is looking solid in net. Plus, a good guy behind the bench. So it will be exciting if they can make some noise this year. Even if they drop off as the year goes on, you still know things are going in the right direction, it seems.

I'm going to make a bold prediction. With the Pacific division looking extremely weak compared to previous years, the Oilers will secure a non wild card playoff spot this year. I'm not saying I'm super great with these but I think the chances that this will happen are good. They can beat 6 out of the 7 other teams in their division and that's all they have to do. As long as goaltending holds out and Eberle + McJesus stay healthy they should be able to do this.

It's very possible. I still think as it sits, they are the 4th best team in that division. But either way, I won't be shocked if they make it in, whether it be WC spot or not.

I think the only two threats to them in their division are the Kings and the Sharks. I'll add that the Kings are only a threat IF they can get their goaltending hammered out. The Ducks are due to fall off and on paper the Oil are able to compete and beat all three of those teams. The rest of the division is grabage or still developing with their own issues. It's been a while since that division has been this weak, like the West in general, and the Oilers seem to be peaking at the same time. That's my logic anyways.

Ya I'm with you, man. I maybe just place the Ducks a bit higher than you would but otherwise I pretty much agree. It will be interesting.

Laine was always rated as the better player in terms of goal production... Matthews is supposed to be the better two way player. Let's see how each of them are doing at 25. To me it's like comparing Ovi and Crosby. It's not really fair since they are different players. Time had shown that.

The Leafs aren't a playoff contender. Congrats on the Kings winning a game they are expected too.
