Bailey, recently I was in the same boat as you. I had numerous mods I wanted to perform and still have many more. I have yet to hire someone to do any of them. I just put in a ton of research on TacomaWorld, asked questions in this particular thread, and watched a ton of youtube videos.

It has been enlightening. I am learning more about my truck than I ever could if I hired it to be done. Which ultimately gives me a bit of confidence when and if something happens out on the trails.

So a buddy at school brought a question of what I was going to buy myself as a gradutaion present.:yay: I wasn't sure, but after thinking on it I'm leaning towards a lift for my truck. Since the AOP I'd been thinking about putting in a set of 5100's, but with the idea of self present I'm thinking about doing something better. I only want to lift it about 2" or so. So what would your suggestions be, on which kits I should look at?

This is what I went with and couldn't be happier. http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com...-Suspension-System-for-05-Tacoma-_p_1615.html

However, since adding a Leer my rear is sagging about 3/4", so I plan to eventually add beefier leaf springs.

Interesting. I haven't heard of them previously. I'll do some research for sure though. I was thinking about the AllPro Expedition pack, as everyone I know that has the OME say they creak like hell.

Well, from my 2nd gen days, I can tell you this.

Having UCAs is critical for making the truck drive great, even at only 2" lift. Night and day difference. I ran without them for far too long. I would factor that into your budget for sure.

I added them on my truck, they replace the factory bumpstop. Not sure with your lift if they'll work but they lifted my truck about an inch at the rear axle.

So, these essentially stiffen the rear and don't allow any sag? How do they perform off road with rear articulation?

They are stiff and can limit your up travel which can make the opposite wide of the axle want to come off the ground easier...but you can unscrew them by hand if you really wanted to (only for offroading purposes, and you'd have to take it easy rolling with absolutely no bump stop)

Definitely something for me to consider, especially since adding the shell, plus I keep it stocked full of shit all of the time, so there's always extra weight in there.

Do they work similar to airbags? Are they adjustable?

Not adjustable. They are progressive. The more weight you put on, the stiffer they get.

I had a cap on for a couple years. I highly recommend some sort of help back there. Having that cap on there flattened and ruined my OEM leaf springs in about 35k. Then i continued to drive it until 50K when i lifted it. At that point, both rear shocks were blown.

I didn't want air bags because i eventually will lift higher.

These are cheaper (mine were $171 shipped from autoplicity)

Its a 5 minute install, Airbag installs are way more complicated.

I did a 210 mile road trip with a 500lb atv in the bed right after i got these and it was a world of difference. No more slamming into the pointy OEM bump stops every time you hit a bridge expansion joint

So far I'm pretty happy with them. I think the ride is a bit better, and when I added the steal rear bumper it only dropped the back 1/16". They have 1000lb xtra load rating. There is also a model for the Tundra that's got a 1500lb rating if you tend to haul alot of heavy stuff. When I put the front coil supports on to compensate for the front bumper/winch it greatly improved the ride/handling. If you email the factory with your measurements, they can probably tell you what model should fit.

    Lift, 285's, mud, and scratches
Honesty, you can't go wrong with 5100's. a number of us (myself included) run them or have ran them. they are great with the 2.5 eibach coils (521600's which i run), and from what i know, 885's very well too. but of you have the $1200+ for foxes or kings, then go that way. but for a decent 2" or so lift, 5100's are a great option for our trucks without breaking the bank.

I ran into some trouble installing the front coils, as the model for the Tacoma wouldn't fit. After measuring Supersprings C/S told me to use the Tundra model. Worked like a charm.

But I can tell you the front part # is supposed to be CSS-1094 and the rear is SSR-610-40
