    I turbo diesel tacoma would be pretty bad ass. But I wouldn't buy it because diesel is too much of a pain in winter up here. Plus when stuff on a diesel breaks, it costs so much more to fix.

    Got it...thanx....There are still some differences I don't understand but angles an tensil strength seem to be the problem...I just wonder what the engineering fix would cost with the increase in joint strength you pointed out....

    Well just making larger CVs isn't really an option because without widening the overall stance there just isn't room to fit them. Just a guess, but I would assume that a set of chromo/300m axle shafts for the IFS would run over a $1000 based on the small demand. That still does nothing for the differential/gear strength. It also does nothing for the rubber CV boots that are still vulnerable to being ripped and allowing dirt into the joint.

    The other thing that needs to be considered though is that those who actually need that extra strength to run larger tires and/or tackle more difficult terrain also require more suspension articulation and travel... The other weakness of IFS in offroad use.

    Cummins already does builds a similar engine. Check out the 4BT and ISB 3.9. The downside is that they still weigh about 745lbs. which would mean that Toyota would have to completely redesign the whole Tacoma frame to support it. I would think that even if there were market demand we won't see a diesel Taco until the next generation at the earliest.

    745 lbs ,,that must be all most twice what the 4.0 weights.

    I guess with a little bit of -Toyota touch- it may slim down 150-200 lbs.

    You sure are right. We won't see any major moves before next generation.

    Is called WORLD economy. If there is a buck to be made they will shake hands and forget about 2nd World War. In my eyes Toyota is more tight *s but they all ready dealt with GM,, why not Cummins. Again who would have thought ,10 years ago, that everything you wear now, will be made in China ???.

    solid axle would be a step backwards. it rides like shit, turns like shit and handles like shit. i can see if 99% of taco owners used it as a trail rig, but face it, they don't. the majority of people who buy these trucks DON'T go offroading or lift it. i mean, we can all dream but to me its kind of a silly one. for the minority of people that want a solid axle, it's possible. im not trying to hate but from a business standpoint it dosen't really make and sense whatsoever.

    a nice turbodiesel would be another story though. and if they built one, it prob. be a 4 cyl., so most of you 1GR people would probably test drive it and keep your truck. i would love to see the 2.5 or 3.0 4 banger diesels, but they aren't the fastest things on the planet...personally i would buy one, but thats cause almost anythings faster than the 2TR....

    why? dodge already has them...toyota has a perfecty good reputation for building solid diesel motors...and plus if they really want the have the whole hino trucking company as well....

    Why Dodge ???? = The answer is $$$$. Yes, Toyota has them all over the World from 4 cylinder to v8 and yes they are bullet proof. But none of them are certified for USA.

    It would be much, much cheaper to use something is made here (unless they are building theirs engines in China ???) and all ready certified then going thru the expenses.

    None of the engines they have in the Hino are small enough to fit in a Tacoma. And even if they did,,,, they are too industrial and require a lot of work before they can be installed in a Tacoma.

    Hey,,, nothing stops us from dreaming.

    you would still need to adapt an engine or create a new one from scratch to fit the platform. it would prob be cheaper for toyota to modify one of their exisiting diesels to us spec both emissions and chassis wise.
