I didn't see anybody with a mount where I wanted it, so I thought I'd ask...

In my truck I have mounted the iPod connector so that it comes out of the cubby by my right knee (Red Arrow). I want to mount my iPod Nano to the piece of plastic under the vent (where the Red Circle is). I have two questions:

    1) Where can I find a replacement for this piece of my dash so that I can cut mine (or the replacement) and have a backup ready?

    2) What kind of mount would you suggest I use?

    Thanks!

(FYI... I did a Google Image search for Tacoma interiors and this is the best example I could find... It came from elsewhere on TW.com! Our little website is going to take over the world...)

I mounted mine in the cubby on the left side of the steering wheel. I have a PA15-TOY, and being as the steering controls opperate the Ipod, I found its a great location.

I don't have steering controls in my truck, so I like having it where I can reach easily with my hands. I think I have the same adapter that you do. It charged my 3rd Gen Nano.... it doesn't charge my 5th Gen. Sucks... I used to just leave my old iPod in the truck when it was low on power.

I think they have a new cable to allow it to charge the 5th Gen. I had to get one for my 4th Gen. Anyway, Maybe some Velcro for the mount?

I bought one of these for my new generation nano. Allows me to hook it up to my alpine headunit and charge at the same time. it converts the 12v firewire pin to the 5v usb pin to allow charging. I just leave my ipod in my glovebox now since I can control it from my headunit.

When you say new cable... Do you mean that I'd just have to buy a whole new adapter for $40ish?

That might be the easiest thing... Put the 'soft' velcro on the back of the iPod and the rough stuff on the dash. No holes required... just use goo-gone once I'm ready to take it off.

There is another company that makes a cable version of that adapter I posted above. They sell it at Fry's Electronics

Thanks. That's exactly the kind of mount I imagined when I asked the question. Do you have one? Is it sturdy?

I've tried using that website to find the part number, but I think I might be functionally retarded. I'm just going to call the dealership. They'll probably be relieved not to get a call about the gas pedal recall.

Thanks! I'm going to save that link as a favorite. The non-charging hasn't been a big problem yet, but if I decide I need to charge in the truck again, this $30 option is better than buying a new adapter (not to mention tearing the dash apart again)

Not on the tacoma but on my previous truck I had it, its good, not weak it will hold the ipod perfectly, but be aware that if you have a cover on the ipod it wont fit. It will be easy to mount where you want it, you would just need 4 screws with nuts. I'll see if I can get the part number for the trim piece.

I'm on hold with a local dealership's parts department right now... We'll see who gets an answer first.

Glad I didn't just buy the one you linked w/o reading! Thanks again.

Dammit! You did win, but I got the same number. Dealership said it was $15.50... I'll be finding it elsewhere.

How did you find it, btw? I never would have guessed that was the part based on the description: "COVER, SWITCH BACE HOLE"

    Thanks again for your help.

Do you have this in your truck ? I would like to see how someone had installed this mount in their truck and how it looks... the website shows only one picture ...
