we can't afford to hug derpBro since he's a big baller with his *$1500 he's made

*$1,500 is not an accurate representation of his actual profit, but is simply a figment of PangTRD's imagination aimed at impressing a bunch of people on the internets, because it seems like a big number to him

    are HSAs worth it?

I started a new job recently and they're offering a $25 contribution to it per paycheck if I contribute the same amount.

I've never really considered HSAs or FSAs..

Yah it can be good if your one that doesn't go to the drs much then it builds up and like Cmack said tax reasons, but if your like my wife with migraines and lots of medicines and dr visits it would drain us to not have a normal deductible. My insurance from work use to be very good, when Obamacare hit t went to shit. Luckily my wife being with the government still have traditional plans to choose from and actually got better with time.

Example for us: birth of our daughter 2 day hospital stay and all that goes with that, I think we paid $100 total between all drs, birth, food and so on.

Make sure to find out how much you can roll into the next year as well. For us we can only roll so much over. If you have more in it you can't cash it out or anything, you just lose it. For that reason I don't do it. Plus I don't go to the doctor really.

The paperwork says that I can deposit a maximum of $6,750 for my wife and I. The company will deposit a maximum of an additional $600 per year.

It fully rolls over also, so its not a use it or lose it account.

Do I HAVE to use it when going to the doctor?

Say I want to do long term savings for a severe illness, can I elect to NOT use it for minor checkups, etc?

Or do I HAVE to use it everytime I use my insurance? (minor checkups, vaccinations, etc)

No you don't have to use it if you don't want to. it's basically another separate account. I think they are totally worth doing.

Some employers allow you to roll bonuses into HSAs, that way you arent hit for capital gains either.

Whew, thankfully I'm not one of those guys, I offer enough unsolicited advice.

@PangTRD , stuff your money in your mattress and invest in meth labs. Just watch out for the cartel.
