Sorry bud, I have a previous engagement on the 19th and my truck is still very stock. Although MobTown is tempting me with some sliders.

This looks like fun. My wife and I took a ride down the Blue Ridge Pwky this past weekend and Ventured through Buena Vista also. We found a waterfall and took some pictures etc. I was just wishing I was back in the GWNF instead but had fun though. Great time of year for it.

I've camped through every condition imaginable over the years in the scouts. A buddy gifted me one of the Napier truck bed tents and I was super pumped... I have never froze my ass off like I did camping in that thing in November a few years ago.
Like someone mentioned previously, insulating yourself from the ground is critical to staying warm. But I think that putting an air mattress in the truckbed, where the the cold wind just whips under the truck, sucks all the heat right out of you from beneath. It was me and my girlfriend, with an air mattress and I even bought some cheap foam ground pads from WalMart the second night. Same issue, so fucking cold.

I haven't tried sleeping under my soft topper and was considering it, but I suspect it will be the same issue. I'm throwing my backpacking tent in the truck and will probably use it or just sleep in the front passenger seat like I did last time up there because I didn't feel like waking up to deal with the momma bear and 3 cubs we saw right before pulling into our campsite. I suspect I'll be sufficiently hammered to make this a comfortable nights sleep regardless.

I just bought a 0 degree bag. I plan on sleeping in the softopper with an air mattress. I might also pick up a propane heater.

I just camped at Rausch last weekend, in full clothes and a flannel bag, and still froze. It was 33.

All this talk of being cold camping... You're doing something wrong. Yea an air mattress in the back of a truck is not for the cold.
What was the bag rated for? I sleep in my hammock, down to 20* and was slightly cold because my underquilt was too short. I've since made a longer one. Hammocks are so comfy and warm.

I might be able to squeeze a one night trip over that weekend. Gotta wait to see about work first tho. If I can, I'm down!

Me, @fatfurious2 and @Coot83 might come down Friday night and camp on the easy trail. But it wouldn't be until later because my shift at the hospital doesn't end until 6ish
