    17" dick cepek rims with 33" nitto mudgrapplers tires, 3" lift, Fishing rod rack.
    I own a 2009 Toyota Tacoma pre-runner. I recently got under my truck and noticed some oil slung on the bottom of the cab. The oil droplet is located above where the transmission meets the driveshaft. In the pictures below you can see oil on the silver cylindrical piece that connects the trans to the driveshaft. I am guessing there is a seal that is busted in between there? Any help or suggestions?

    Transmission output seal, they have updated to a new double-lip design.

    Looks like the same problem man, would you happen to know how much it costs to repair? Are there any recalls?

    Is that the rear main seal? Seem to need to be replaced about every 75k or so. If you have any mechanical experience it's not a terribly hard job

    You may want to check your transmission fluid level. Looks like you lost quite a bit over time.

    I have 95,000 and just noticed signs of oil. Hopefully it will be a one time deal. Will do, ill make sure to check it tomorrow.

    No. The rear main seal is at the rear of the engine and seals the crankshaft.

    That is the the transmission output shaft seal or is also known as a tailshaft seal.

    It is apparent that I have lost some trans fluid. Would it be OKAY if I add a Toyota certified trans fluid to the correct amount to get me through the weekend. I plan on fixing the problem next week. Although i will be traveling about 300 miles this weekend. Will I be okay?

    Just bought my 06 Prerunner and same thing. Noticed the transmission and driveshaft looked to be replaced so I visited Toyota to see how long ago it was replaced in hopes of the leak being under a warranty. Trans was replaced in 09 under warranty so nope. Just to be curious, i asked the cost to fix the tailshaft seal. $320.00
    Yeah, I'll be doing it myself.
