My dad has a 2014 TRD off road and is putting a new suspension on it. I am getting ready to buy a 2004 TRD. Will his suspension fit on my truck.

Also, this TRD has all the skid plates and badging but does NOT have a button for the locking rear diff. Did Toyota sell trucks just badged as 'TRD' but without the elocker, is it possible to put a e locker on? This truck has a clean car fax and does not have a "iffy" history to it.

It's either a TRD sport or off-road. If it doesn't have the scooped good then it's a fake trd

2nd Gen suspension will not fit a 1st gen. Most likely someone just threw a TRD decal on there, if there is no locker it's not a trd. Totally possible to swap in a locker from another 1st Gen or go the air locker route. Would do a good look over of the frame for rust issues.

Yes, the truck I'm looking at buying is a 1st gen. I was just looking at it and checked underneath and there is NO rust. Looks to be in GREAT condition. Do regular 1st gen 4x4s have skid plates? If they do then this one just had TRD decals installed on it.

Anthony, have you installed a locker on yours? Has the lack of a locker held you back much?

Back when Toyota first started the whole TRD thing with Tacomas, they did offer the TRD package without the e-locker. It was rare and only for the 4 bangers IIRC

This got me curious because most Web info and info on TW will tell you, if there is no elocker it's not a trd. But from some info I have found today from owners who bought there truck brand new that's not the case as you stated @eon_blue. Evidently even though rare there are even some newer 2004 4cyl trd's with no elocker. They just had everything else included in the package. This is even contradictory to Toyota brochures that are out there stating what is offered. Seems Toyota when it comes to trim packages and so forth definitely threw out some curve balls on certain Trucks/years. Here is a thread I found if anyone is interested with some TRD info and debates. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/clarification-on-what-a-trd-package-is.207033/

I wonder if it's just one of those options that Toyota doesn't advertise kind of like the utility package, its there if you really want it but they aren't trying to push it on people
