Well, just picked up the trailer. Second time ever towing, and first time towing something this size. Thank god I took a first trip to drop stuff off or I would've been screwed. Wish me luck as I drive about 850 miles with the trailer :turtleride:

I'm sure I will, I'm just not used to the turning radius I need to take now and how wide the trailer is. I'm confident enough in my driving skills, most other people though? Not so much haha. No offense to anyone on here

None taken. Like my parents say... you have to drive and watch what you're doing, and EVERY ONE ELSE.

The best reason to drive an off-road capable vehicle is driving on the roads in New England.

The best reason to up-armor your vehicle is driving with the drivers in New England.

Also, figure I'll just ask here, when towing I know 3rd gen models say to tow in S, I have a 2nd gen ('15), so should I tow in 4 or is D safe to use for a long haul?

You and me both! I think I've got my front and rear bumpers picked out, and my sliders too. But who knows.

Yep, even my small boat I tow in 4. At 70mph I'm only turning like 2700 rpms, truck doesn't mind it one bit.

I guess I'm the odd one out... If it'll hold the top gear, keep it in D. If you're in a hilly area and it's constantly hunting for gears, then kick it in 4 to lock out overdrive. If it'll keep the torque converter locked in the high gear, it's fine to tow in D, you just have to pay attention.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
I tow a bit. The way I do it is I leave it in 4 until I get up on the highway and I'm doing over 55 and if it's flat or downhill then I go into D. The moment I hit any kind of uphill and it starts slowing my speed down I manually shift the trans into 4 before the truck kicks itself down. If you do this right and keep the pressure on the pedal the same you should notice on some of the smaller hills that your speed will actually start increasing, so then you can lay off the gas a bit to keep your speed the same. This means you are using less gas to go the same speed by just having your engine rev a little higher rather than flogging it up the hill but needing to press more on the pedal.

Hope my description makes sense and just so that you know it's also easier on your transmission

Edit; I forgot to add that if it's a big downhill make sure to move down a gear to help slow you down with your engine braking

That seems complicated but makes sense. It doesn't seem to hurt the truck at all to go 70 mph in 4, but I'm also used to a motorcycle that did 87mph in 1st gear at redline which was 14,500 rpms. I would ride my motorcycle all day long at 9000 rpms and not even think twice about it. As far as saving gas, I don't even think about that when I'm towing, especially the sleds.

Yeah but you're already in NH and I'm down at the RI line. Plus you're probably not pulling this parachute behind you!!! Lol.

I travel 5 hours to just to get to Rangeley ME and then drive my sled around all over the place getting a whopping 10 mpgs. Gas is by far and away my biggest expense for a weekend away snowmobiling

BTW, no you are not going to hurt anything by just putting the trans into 4 and leaving it there. What I described before is just what I do and it works well, plus it saves me $$$ on gas

I've never been able to successfully get oil stains out. Maybe stain stick it and pre-soak over night.

Soak it in a 5 gallon bucket with some Pink Stuff first, then rub some Fels Naptha into into the stains before you toss it in the wash. Wash it with warm water.

Edit- If the stains are really bad, you can work a splash of undiluted Pink Stuff right into the stain, but do that sparingly and wear rubber gloves because it'll strip the oil right out of your fingers.
