ive noticed the smell outside coming in (fishy river, grass cutting smell, diesel exhaust) even when the ac vents closed. i told the service manager about the issue while at my 15k service and he said it was normal. the reason i know its not normal is my previous two tacomas didnt have this same issue. can anybody tell me if you had the same problem and how it was fixed. thanks.

edit: I meant recirculate button is on. fresh air off.

Could it be the recirc button off? I think defrost and feet vent combo take air from outside. Feet only you can activate recirc.

I have noticed the same thing. I have even cleaned out the leaves and debris from where the cabin filter goes. I think it is normal, as when the louvers close up, I don't think it is an airtight seal. I have actually operated the recirc feature with the filter out, so I could watch it. It closes all the way, but I don't think it will ever be an air tight 100% seal. Your good.

I dont buy the whole push button for 10 seconds deal. I have pushed the button, it lights up, and watched the louvers close up. I want to say that when you smell fumes with recirc activated, it is due to the seal not being a 100% airtight seal. It is just two doors closing against each other......

The point I am trying to make regardless of what a manual states, is to activate recirc all you have to do is press the button until it lights up. That is all. I have watched it close.

Don't know what to tell you then. Good luck. My recirc is working fine. I don't smell anything from the outside.

You don't have to tell me anything. Mine is working fine also. I'm just trying to help the guy who originally started this thread, indicating to him that his is working normal also.

Keep in mind that the tacomas aren't air tight so outside smells still enter through door seals and crevasses. Otherwise you'd die from axfixiation if you were in your truck for a few hours.

I notice this smell from time to time I was going to blame it on the truck sitting in the garage at home a lot more this past year and maybe not drying out after washes and rains ect.

thanks guyz. i know it is normal for most buts its unacceptable for me. my 2002 and 2010 tacomas never had this problem. once i pressed the recirc button and the louvers closed, the only thing i could smell was my fart. i guess quality isnt that great on my 2015. might as well drive with my windows down from now on.

Have you removed you cabin air filter and inspected it? I had the same problem, removed my filter and found it to be clogged. Replaced it and problem is now gone

I wish I could have taken a picture of it. The filter was full of dust, Buggs, leaves and all sorts of other things. Air flow was still coming through it but it would cause a nasty smell.
