I'm getting itchy, boys. Thinking about trading for a 2.7 crew cab ecoboost f150. I have a 2014 pyrite mica dclb sr5 4x4 with a healthy list of mods. Looking at a 2015 f150 crew cab 5.5ft box 2.7 ecoboost xlt with backup camera in the rear view mirror. TalK me down. My quelms with the taco are the payload/towing/fuel efficiency, but I love toyota quality. My trade in is 31k and price on f150 is 34k. My taco has 65k kms and f150 has 48k kms. Neither have accidents.

I personally wouldn't go with the 2.7, rather I'd go with the 3.5, if you do any hauling/towing the 3.5 will fair better fuel wise.

Do you really tow and/or haul a lot?

Don't lie just to act all cool, be honest

I don't tow a lot, but I do haul a lot. Camping gear and lumber with typically four people in the cab. With my couple mods and the canopy, it only take four guys and a cooler to max out my payload. On most of my road trips I'm well over payload, which makes me really nervous. If I towed a ton, I probably would've bought a 5.0 ford in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I love my taco, it just doesn't love carrying my stuff.

    Same same.

Next truck will either be a 5.0 SuperCrew or some other manufacturer full size.

Tried the midsize world but at the end of the day and the beginning of every trip it's just too small.

Hey man Just made this decision recently. I went with the 16 3rd gen but only because i don't need a full size. My cousin works for Ford as one of their shop mechanics and has never seen issues with the EB. He was ripping apart engines that had 300k miles (work trucks) and the only issues he saw was with spark plugs and fuel injectors needing to be replaced more because of the high compression. This was on the 3.5.

I drove both engines recently 3.5 and 2.7. The 2.7 is insane man. It makes no sense it felt faster in every way . Read the reviews and go test drive it. The only issue with that new engine is it has start stop which the new 3.5 gen 2 has anyways. You just need to figure out what you want. For me I wanted crawl control, locker and some of the mid size truck aspects for urban driving that the f150 couldn't provide.

I don't think you could go wrong, if you need the extra power and like the f150 go for it. The resell value on the new eb trucks is great and I have a bunch of friends that bought them.

I wouldnt get a Ford that's for sure. just get a used tundra. same price probably, slightly less mpg but guaranteed to get you well past 150k with zero issues. and you can always sell it later and not loose your ass on it.

I do tow often. I know what you mean, but why not a Tundra?

I'm not a fan of smaller engines with a turbo for hauling/towing shit. Just get a diesel and be done.

My dad just bought a 2015 expedition with the 3.5 (1st gen, the new trucks have a 2nd gen motor with even more torque) and it's awesome to drive, pulling a 20ft trailer with a 40 horse tractor and 5ft bush hog the Expy will roast the tires from a stop and even from a roll up to ~20 MPH.
We average about 19 around town, 22 highway.

I've had a couple of the 5.0s v8 f150s and they will haul the mail.
Personally I'd go with the 3.5 ecoboost instead of the 2.7 eb. But if you can talk em down a little more it may be worth it.
Resale value on the Tacoma will be there for years where it will not on the F150. But it's your truck and your money so do what YOU want

I've given my head a real hard shake, for now. As good of a deal as the f150 was, I can't ignore the fact that I'd have to re-purchase a canopy, running boards/sliders and a way to mount my roof tent. Man, that thing was fun to drive. The 2.7 in sport mode is almost scary.
