I forgot to post this pic up yesterday it just shows how I slightly undersized the hole so I could file it to a tight fit. The holes I drilled will still be a little loose but I can fill that no problem.image.jpg

Yes it will be flush with the back of the bumper, the hitch pin will be hidden in front of the bumper, and it will be welded on both sides. Should be more than strong enough.

Hand filed to a nice fit.

Shouldn't be a problem filling in the corners.image.jpga view from a different angle to give you an idea of how it will look when it's finished.

Used this for getting the holes in the ball park.image.jpgworks well at knocking down bigger areas, but the hand file is where it's at for getting the edges straight.

Doubt it'll be an issue for you with as thick a tubing as you used but I "gusseted" mine out to each side with some smaller square tube. Probably not really necessary but extra can't hurt right! Haha

I am thinking about gusset if the top side of the tube, I just need to make sure it wouldn't interfere with a hitch pin. All gussets will be added at the end of the build.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Whenever I read someone talking about their drop bracket lift and referring to it as a "DB" lift, I for some reason always read that as a douche bag lift. IDK why. I'm just silly that way. By no way and I referring to you like that so please don't take it that way. Nice build, love the bumpers! I'm only on page 9. Must keep reading!!!

Honestly if I would have known what a drop bracket lift was when I bought this truck I might have passed because it is going to be a pain in the ass to lift it how I want it now.

Most people that put them back to stock (or long travel) just take a part the DB and weld in a piece of 2 x 4 steel in place of the cut out piece. Your good with a welder. Shouldn't be a problem for you at all.

Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see how this rear bumper looks when it's all done!

I can't wait till I pay it off so I can start saving up for all the things I really want to do to it. Although by then it might make more sense to sell it and buy a fresh canvas.... Hmm lol we'll see I really do like my truck.

Putting in some work on the hidden reciever this morning.
First thing on the list was flattening out the weld seam a little bit so that a 2" square tube will slide into it.
Before:image.jpgAnd after:image.jpgI just used a long flat hand file to knock it down a bit, fits nicely now.image.jpg
Next on the list: drilling the hole.
I ended up using a 5/8 drill bit. I'm not sure what size the hole usually is but 5/8 was the next size under that I have so if it's too tight I can go back later and make it s little bigger. I think it will work though.image.jpgi chamfered the edges with a 3/4" for easier pin starting, and to clean up the look a little bit.
I placed the center of the pin 2" behind the bumper which should give me plenty of room to work with putting pins in and out.image.jpg Then I peeped the edges for welding.image.jpgsll set in place and ready to burn.image.jpgmore to come, I'll be working on it for a few more hours today.

NSome ugly welds but they will hold.image.jpgThe front welded and ground smooth.image.jpgsitting in the truck.image.jpgnow I'm cleaning up all the side pieces so they can be tacked in place. Removing mill scale is a pita but it is well worth the effort and time to have much nicer welds.
