New Mexicans have a tendency to do that... AMR is back in 'Cruces again... yay! (ugh). I actually don't work for them... I work for Elite Medical Transport as a flight medic, and I also work for a small ER and for the DABCC as an instructor...

Yah, I don't remember who was promoing the vouchers -- we ended up skiing taos, and I was sorer than I'd like to have been for a few days after, as I'm not really a skier...

I had to wait almost a month for my national registry results... it was still the paper test with the dreaded 'Bubble Forms'... mis mark one and youre off for the whole column, and there goes the whole test... I remember catching it and having to erase and re-mark 15-20 answers... now that sucks when youre trying to get it done under the gun! pencil, paper, and 2 hour time limits!!! the (sort of) good old days... :]

waiting is pretty nerve wracking, but usually when you miss something its pretty obvious afterwards... It will pop into your head... sounds like you did fine.if you cant think of anything you 'dumbassed'.- you prolly did alright. Passing is passing, just study up on your trouble areas...

Nice.. so is that fixed wing or Rotor? doing transports and scene calls?
I've thought about flying but I am not too fond of the risk...not that driving code through Pojoaque, 84/285, and Chimayo isn't effin life threatening sometimes...

Dood its been dumping up here and the Skiing has been wicked! my legs have been torched every night.... I didnt make it to Taos, just working patrol at SF, but hey, getting paid to ski is better than a sharp stick in the eye... Gotta say people should know better than to hurt themselves on a powder day tho... wtf... it Totally interferes with burning Laps!!! haha JK! Job Security!!!
but I am taking some annual leave to go Silverton/Telluride and Angelfire next week for my Bday...
pumped for some time off! :rain::mudding::rain:

That either means you got everything right, or everything wrong. Hope for the best..

When I took my NREMT-P exam, I got booted at 73.. from what I had heard around this state, everybody had at least got 80 questions... one para-rescue guy had scored a 77... So, I thought I was doomed... About 9 hours later, I got the good news -- two weeks later, I got the patch.

    you'll be fine!

OK -- sorry to double post.. I'm too stupid to multiple quote stuff in the same post...

We fly fixed wing, and do both scene responses and inter-facility stuff. Nothing like a level 1 trauma at 15000 feet. We do alot of ICU to ICU, ER to ICU, stuff like that, and we get the privilege of flying into some tiny little 1 bed hospitals run by nursing home staff -- so the job get to be pretty interesting from time to time. As for safety.. (knock on wood), FW tends to be pretty safe.. The only thing that makes rotor so dangerous is the unstable nature of the aircraft. Both types of aircraft are SO!!! regulated by the FAA, its hard to screw something up, other than taking chances with weather.

Nice. that sounds like stimulating work! I got kind of intimidated by CCT shite,as that was my instructors real joy, and thus our pain... he included pretty much the whole critical care curriculum in our program, and it made my head spin! to have to do all the 'regular' ALS stuff, and then diagnose lab values, and give insulin and K+ as part of a scenario... with all the accompanying math to drop BGL, and pH... Talk about overload! holy smokes... anyway in a year or two i would like to go back and do the CCT course again. although there's really no reason, if I don't do part time with a transport service or fly.(besides gettin more edumacated...)

Yeah, online should work fine. When i took my Medic Registry i found out actually the next day at the time i took the test the day before. So that was pretty cool. But yeah, when i did my Basic Registry i had to wait a month also cuz of the stupid bubble sheets. But yeah, my medic one i got booted at 81 and that was pretty much the norm for my class except for one guy who did 70. I was shocked. But he must have gotten 70 right. I hope everything went good.

Oh and to reply to some dude that said LA is the innovators of EMS, you've gotta be joking. Yes, Paramedicine was started in LA county, but innovation for EMS when it comes to Fire/EMS is San Diego. If you ever worked in LA county you would see why there is no way they can be innovators. They test out like 1 drug every ten years or so and their protocols are stupid. They like robot medicine out there, they don't like medics thinking for themselves.

i have taken the ECA national registry 3 times. studying is key. and most important of all, do not think like a firefighter, think like a medic.

In those super busy areas where level 1 capabilities are 5-10 minutes away, most medics don't have time to be medics... Get a tube on scene, haul ass, maybe decompress in the truck, try and start an IV... you're there.

Thats why I love the bush-work...(no pun intended)... We've got a 40 minute transport time with a trauma code.... Ugh...sometimes thats not so fun.... but it really lets us flex our skills...

You're right about lots of standing protocols and too much base contact... but there are parts of LAC that are out from hospitals. I'm sure LA is up there with the tactical EMS though (given that LAPD SWAT is one of the best in the US).

Anyway, the real innovators are Miami-Dade... and lots of work with CPR being done in AZ and (of all places!) Minnesota. Go figure. Let's face it though, you work a busy system, you'll probably end up losing skills, for reasons already posted - short transport times, scoop & run, uptight directors, etc.

Whatever though, someday it'd be cool if I could be an EMS director. I'd love to stay involved in field medicine. Bet your ass I'd let the guys in LAC start giving aspirin without needing to phone home.
