I agree that I dont think problem was cause by the HID or LED, but since i am not 100% sure, I am kinda backing out from installing any of it right now.
Thinking about creating a new circuit just for headlight and install a canceller on the original line, so I can install HID "safely"...

A lot of those kits have there own relay. Not only does this isolate its power from the factory wiring but it's to regulate the voltage drop what causes one of the HID's to turn off and stay off while the vehicle is started and running. I'm not sure about the kits they used and if they use their own external relay, but the truck also uses a relay and the circuit is fused. Extremely little chance that any sort of back feed or interference could actually make its way to the ECU. Either way I personally wouldn't worry about it. And if there is ever a problem just keep your original bulbs to put back in. I really believe it's a crank position sensor issue that's causing the truck to not start. I've seen them be very intermittent in vehicles before and there is a known issue with them on certain 2016 tacomas. But then again with electronics anything is possible. I've seen lots of weird and crazy shit in the 12 years I've been in the automotive industry working on cars and trucks. Hopefully they both get the issue solved

how could you even think that. OP sprays engine bay with LED and HID kit in and truck goes nuts and shuts down basically. Swaps out to stock bulbs sprays the shit out of it zero issues with the truck. Pretty sure thats a closed case that the HID or LED kit was 100% the culprit.

I pressure washed my engine bay yesterday but because of your thread and a few others a took my LED's out and replaced them with the factory bulbs before I did it.

Just to recap..it was not the HID's that caused the issue it was 1 specific type of LED's.

Correct, at least from what I can ascertain--it's the older (discontinued) XB LED bulbs.

well.. the other user had the new 2 strokes.

I'm not sure which one it is, I haven't had a chance to go back and individually test again.

    Inconclusive at this point

    Ha, it worked!

Fwiw, even after reading every post in this thread I got morimoto hids from TRS anyway and they're great.. I've power washed my truck twice since installing them with no issues. Either way seems the diagnosis has shifted to the LEDs so my experience with the HIDs is probably irrelevant now.

OP doesn't even have a clue what's going on. Just because it hasn't happened again doesn't mean it won't. I've been a professional mobile electronics installer for 12 years. I've seen a lot of crazy things happen. I've also seen a lot of techs blame issues on aftermarket equipment and products when in fact it's had nothing to do with the issue. I'm extremely leery on this case. Lots of variables obviously I don't know, but just based on the problem and what they are claiming is causing it I'm calling bullshit. If OP wants to send me the lights I'll install them and record the whole thing. Take my pressure washer and head over to our Toyota store and grab a tech steam and my multimeter and really start diagnosing it.

I have been following this thread a bit. At one point you had a huge Bill. Like $14k. Where does that stand? This is still crazy to me.

Have ran retroa/HIDs for years in multiple vehicles without issue.

His insurance paid it because the dealer (incorrectly IMHO) determined the problem was caused by sand in the fuel tank which migrated into the fuel system and dissolved under the pressure but came out of solution in the injectors or some such crap. OP mentioned the new diagnosis to the insurance company but they declined to pursue the issue.

[Edit: The insurance company is the only one that gets a gold star in this fiasco.]

I know that my truck has exhibited issued 3 times. Each time was after water exposure. I know that the dealer can replicate the issue after unplugging lights, and didn't charge me any labor because they knew they screwed up this last time.

I am currently speaking with trs and we are trying to figure things out. They've gone and processed a refund for the 2 stroke LEDs since I had fitment issues.

I have not had a chance to test them with water yet. I do plan on reinstalling the old LEDs and spraying the truck down to see if the problem is isolated to them. If I was the HIDs, well never know because I attacked them with a ton of silicone and dielectric grease.

There IS a problem, we just need to pinpoint where

I think I would take this guy up on his offer, sounds like he would get to the bottom of this, and find what is really going on.

So I took the truck back to Pismo, even HAD to drive through some standing tide waters, as the tide was way high and came all the way up to the sand road, and asphalt by the gate.

Romped the dunes and did countless donuts, slides, and roosts.

Haven't washed it yet, buy so far.... No issues.

I had my interior LEDs from superbrightleds, my Morimoto HID 35w 5k, the XC Led projector fogs, and the 2 stroke LED highs.

Let me know next time you are in Pismo. My schedule is pretty impacted, but I could probably hang out for a while if you are out there.
