Now you made me feel guilty saying the 4runner had a better fit and finish. I do agree, that I feel more comfortable in the tacoma. I guess the wind noise in the new taco has me feeling like the 4runner is has a better fit and finish. I totally agree with the manual 4wd lever too. She bust's my balls about it all the time. It's so much nicer. If only we had 2wd low too. Her's is beating me on mpg's so far, but she has 5k miles and i have 700 miles on mine. At the end of the day, i would rather have the taco, period.

I know there are a lot of mileage threads on Tacos, but I wanted to say how impressed I am with the mileage of my new truck, MT and all.

I'm averaging 22.8 over my last tank, and I drove over Cameron Pass and back (200 miles round trip) averaging 22.4 MPG. Phenomenal on a motor that hasn't even broken in yet.

Hows the Pro suspension? Does it add any lift\ bed load capacity?

I find this hard to belive. I live in the Mississippi delta (flatland), and I don't drive like an asshole 95% of the time. With that I only average 16mpg. That is with every drop of fuel that has gone thru my truck calculated thru fuelly(8500miles). I can't believe people are getting 24mpg on this combo. Either they are wrong, or there is something seriously wrong with the fuel consumption of my truck. I did add toyo at 2's at about 3k but I was averaging only 17mpg before that.

I average about 22+ mpg on my 2016 V6 with MT in mostly suburban driving, and if I get the chance to cruise on a freeway for any distance, I can do an mpg or two better at 65 mph. I do admit to having a "light foot."

I don't know what to tell you. I had a 2013 SR5 4x4 dcsb that averaged 19, stock. My 2012 FJ averaged 21, stock. I logged 60k with each vehicle tracking 75% of fuel ups with fuelly.

I have been very impressed with this truck, and so far my overall average is 21.9 and my trip averages as the motor has opened up are even better at 22.4 all the way up to 23 if I am spending most time coming down a pass.

You're welcome to disagree, but I would employ you to consider that I'm not making it up just to give myself some false gratification of having a higher efficiency truck than people I don't know.

Is there any reason I should switch my order from Manual to the Auto? Honestly debating after 14 years of driving a manual, and 7 of those were in my 2.7L PreRunner 5MT.

Both of these transmissions have their little quirks, no doubt.

No. I have come from 3 previous 2.7l manuals. this v6 in a manual moves right along and is smooth.

Great thread. Praise be to the manual and it's squeaking throw-out bearing.

Thinking about replacing the clutch in the garage DYI style.

    Anybody have Success stories?

I've replaced many clutches, all were successful. Be sure to get the flywheel resurfaced if you aren't replacing it. I've only replaced one flywheel which was cracked and heat damaged from the clutch slipping. If the flywheel isn't cracked or overheated so it has temper colors it can be reused.
