Ah yes, that does fit the description. Probably not perticularly useful for me, but sounds like a cool mod for sure. And I agree, these heated mirror kits are great. I use mine pretty much every morning now.

Hello! I just found this, and the kit is perfect!! The weather is just starting to go down hill here in North Eastern Ohio... Just wondering, what is the time setting on the unit if I chose to use the left of the steering wheel cluster with the mirror adjuster? Also is there a price increase with that unit versus the standard illuminated button? I apologize because I'm sure you've answered this question before, I just do not want to search for it in the nearly 70 pages! Thank you so much!

    Sent you a message

Much appreciated! I'm usually very much the same, I'm pretty particular about wiring. I definitely build them to a level I'd be happy using in my own truck. I saw you post about the Tacoma, it sucks when something like that happens. I'm sure tons of other people have already said it, but the most important thing was that you walked away from it. The video made me cringe a little lol

Haha I figured there was enough hints that somebody would nail it! It is coming SLOWLY but nearing the end and prototypes should be done soon. Unfortunately the mating connectors needed only exist in connector to PCB form so this will be a PCB rather than a harness. There is a thread around here somewhere that some have done using 4 SPDT relays and mine will take a similar approach. It will also have a few extra bells and whistles such as in dash confirmation when engaged in 2lo, the ability to activate 2lo with an accessory switch, or if no switch positions are available it can also be activated with just the existing 4wd switch. Kind of like a sleeper mod where you couldn't tell it was there unless you toggle the 4wd switch in a special sequence to unlock 2lo mode. It basically will communicate with and override the 4wd ECU when necessary to make 2lo possible while keeping all of the original safety measures in place. It's been a challenging and long winded project, but a fun one to tackle.

The cat is out of the bag now lol. I did figure there would be a large group that won't have much use for this, but the ones who do should love it.

Glad you like it! If you go with the mirror adjust kit then I can preset your timer to 5, 10, 15, or 20 minute heating cycle, whichever you prefer. That can also be easily adjusted later if you would like a different time setting.

With the mirror adjust kit there is a $35 increase to go with an illuminated switch vs non illuminated. The illuminated switch uses a different connector than what we have in our trucks so requires me to build a small harness to properly transfer all of the mirror adjustment outputs.

With that said I just sold out this weekend on the specialty relays that are used on the mirror adjust and under AC type kits. I do have more on order but they haven't been built and shipped yet. I'll be making a list of people who would like to order those kits and then finishing off the orders once the relays are in. If you would like to go on that list or have any other questions just let me know!

Thank you so very much for the quick, through reply!! So, if I understand correctly it would be $340, plus an additional $35 for the mirror adjust switch for a total of $375?

No problem at all, was just replying to some messages before I call it a night. $340 is the cost off the left of steering style kit. With that kit you can choose between a 5 or 15 minute timer. The switches with that kit come illuminated either in green or Amber at no extra cost.

The mirror adjust kit requires a completely different type of harness to be built, you can't take the mirror adjust switch and hook it up to the left of steering harness.

The cost for a mirror adjust kit is $390 for the non illuminated switch and then $35 extra if going with an illuminated switch.

The mirror adjust kit costs more since the switches are more expensive, it requires a specialty timer relay and the wiring harness is also more complex.

They are both great kits though and accomplish the same thing. They just use different components and wiring methods to reach the same end result.

I do have the left of steering kits in stock, they use a different relay than the ones that I have on order right now.

Ahh I understand, thank you. One last question, for the normal left of steering wheel option, for the 15 minute timer button, is that a symbol for a rear window defrost? Would there be any way to change that?

Yeah that is a rear defrost icon on the 15 minute timer. The 5 minute timer has just the mirror graphic on it though. If you really want a 15 minute timer but also the graphics without the rear window defrost I can get that through Toyota but the switch is $10 more. I don't usually offer it because I don't want people to feel like I am up selling them, but if it's important to you then yes it can be done and this is what it would look like. I personally like the cleaner look of not having the rear defrost icon on the switch too. This can be done with either green or amber lighting for the switch.

I am in the final stages of assembly / installation. I installed the switch to the left of the steering wheel, but only have a clutch cancel button on this panel (basic MT truck). The Clutch Start Cancel switch is an illuminated typ. However, the wire colors do not match that of the the instructions so I wanted to make sure before doing something incorrectly.

I have matched up the solid green wire to the green wire feeding the switch, however, there is not green wire with a white stripe on this switch for illumination.

Does anyone know which wire I should tap into to complete the illumination circuit?

    Thanks!

I don't have a manual transmission so maybe you can confirm for me if that switch specifically lights up when the headlights are turned on. If so does it also dim when you adjust the dimmer switch? If not then you will just need to tap into a different switch that meets those criteria. The green wire is +12v and the green with white is the variable ground which controls the dimming of the light.

You technically could just ground the green with white stripe wire from the harness and the switch would then light up but could not be dimmed. Better to locate one of your switches that has the correct wires (any switch that is on the dimmer circuit).

Great write up Jaimes! I was driving home from work this morning and couldn't see out of my mirrors due to frost (Im in Durham NC). I decided then that I needed heated mirrors!! I have a 2007 Tacoma Pre-Runner. I would need a full kit, left of steering wheel with a 15 minute timer, amber switch. Thanks Jaimes!!

Nice, Hope you enjoy the kit and thanks again for ordering!

Ah that would explain the lack of dimming wire hooked up to it. I shot him a PM with some alternate suggestions on where to hook up

Hello. I'm interested in this mod. I'm sure it's listed somewhere but the threat has gotten pretty long. What is the difficulty of install and approximate amount of time it will take?
