Lifted '16 Tacomas

Adjust the rear positive and front negative. Max the rear and then put the front cams about halfway negative. Should be pretty decent. 3rd gens are a little different as far as results but should be good.

 

My truck was a royal bitch to align. Took everything the factory cams and spc arms had

 

Sounds good thank you. Once I do this, I assume I will need to take it to be realigned in completion am I right? or will this get me where I need to be and everything else can stay the same?

 

You'll need to have it aligned

 

No adjust them right before you take it to get alignment, it will need fine tuned and toe set on the alignment rack.

 

Jack it up before you make the adjustments,so it moves freely.

I made this same post in by Build Thread, but thought I would share here.

Tonight was my first attempt to fix my horrible "Taco Lean", Not sure what happened, but it was really bad. Now, still bad, but not as bad.

Quick Specs 5100's set to 0, 885's rear 1" blocks.

I installed a 1/2" shim below my Rear Driver springs. Helped a bit, but I think I will need a 1/4" spacer for the front Driver as well.

Measurement from center of wheel to bottom of fender. The rear was 1 1/4" difference, WTF?

Front Driver: 22 7/16" After: 22 3/4" (+ 5/16")
Front Passenger: 23 3/16" After: Same
Rear Driver: 23" After: 23 1/2" (+1/2")
Rear Passenger: 24 1/4" After: Same

The front has a 1/2" difference and the rear has a 3/4" difference still, so a front driver 1/4" spacer should fix it, and help push the right rear down a bit also.

I think this forum may be driving me crazy. I've been trying to decide what lift I wanna use, how tall I wanna go, what size tire, the only thing I decided on is wheels. Now I have another worry, possible driveline vibrations.

Some ppl I see on this site that have vibrations seem to try just a few things then just take the lift off and go back to stock. So I guess my question is can driveline vibrations not always be solved or are some ppl just not willing to mess with it? I would really hate to get about 3500 bucks worth of new stuff on my truck then have to remove it and sell for a loss.

 

I'd say people who give up did so because they didn't know what they're doing to begin with. Quite a few of us have lifts and don't have any issues at all. There is nothing that can't be solved.

 

A lot of people on this site are very sensitive to every tic and vibration, and to them it is the end of the world.

I would suggest if you touch the suspension at all, install the ECGS CV bushing. I just ordered one. The front loose CV vibration many times is thought to be the rear driveshaft, and people go nuts trying to chase it down.

The rear driveshaft vibration issue, if it occurs, can be solved by correcting the angles. A little bit of reading into U-Joint angles, and you can begin to work to correct the issues. The rear 2-Piece Driveshaft is more prone to issues, because you have two pieces to work to get the angles correct.

But like Chris said, if you don't have a lot of knowledge, you better have some coin, cause you'll be paying a shop to figure it out if you can't.

 

How's the ride with just the bilsteins in the front? I'm going back and forth on doing Bilsteins all around, or just the front.

 

When I lifted the back on my 2016 I used a 2.5" tapered block and Bilstein extended length shocks. I also installed the OME center bearing drop on the driveshaft but I don't think it was even needed. Using tapered blocks kept my driveshaft angle very close to factory. I only used blocks because I refuse to deal with squeaking OME leaf packs, totally unacceptable to me. Blocks work great, 3* taper is perfect, back end rides great with the Bilstein shocks.

 

Thank you for the info. I was figuring some ppl are very sensitive to small vibrations. I will have to read up some but will keep my fingers crossed that I don't have any problems. I'm only planning a 2in lift in the front and if I need to a 1in in rear.

Idk but mines doing the exact same thing. I have 5100s at 0 with ome 888 springs

 

275/70/17. Ordered scs ray10s 8.5 wide with -10 offset. I know 275s usually will fit with 2in lift but the offset worries me a little.

 

You may be ok, you may rub, seems these trucks are so different from each other at times.
