Have you considered trying leadnav on your phone and if it works well for you, transionting to an iPad in a mob armor mount?

No I haven't. will look into it. Would you say that would be easier to work with? In your opinion

I don't really have anytime on leadnav. But I hear it's awesome. I'm gonna try it out next time I'm in the desert. I was using MotionX-GPS.it works pretty good, but could be better.

Lowances and garmins are pretty much the standard, but I've talked to a few guys who have used leadnav down in Baja and loved it

I'm sure some guys who spend more time in the desert than myself will chime in with some more insight

Tablet and a Bluetooth GPS antenna with LeadNav seems to be the way a lot of guys are going in their play trucks.
    1, it's a smaller unit.
2, you can use the tablet for other things (diagnostics, music, movies) inside and outside the truck.
3, seems easier to use. Used MotionX awhile back and I think LeadNav is even better.

You can download maps for offline use via wifi from several sources. I us the U.S. Topo Imagery with markup.

So yes. It does. Then I generall download tracks of trails or record my own. Easy to follow the lines.

Works well. Does have a few quirks but once you know how to use it. Have no complaints.

Yes, thank you - that's a big help since there's no cell service in most of the places I like to go and Google maps won't publish roads where I like to go either so I've just been going on .pdf maps from parks that I drive through. Looking forward to using this for my next trip in December :)

LeadNav is the way to go, use it with an iPad and a dual XGPS160 reciever. I run California trail maps for most of the maps I need state side. You can also download map tiles out of gmaps for off the grid navigation. It's a hard combo to beat. Works great for off the grid maps, gonna go watch the Baja 1000 this weekend and going to use it as my sole source of navigation. Anyone else going to watch the race? Screen shot of the app running.
