not really, bike lanes and bike nuts have ruined the property values of our homes, no one wants to live here, they make mine and all my neighbors lives misserable and for 20 years I have never, ever, ever, ever, had a traffic delay, maybe 2 cars at a traffic light. THE DAY bike lanes installed a d we went from 5 lanes to 2, it ruined our area of the city! So, no, not really ok! Bike fenatics who want bike lanes are the root of all that ruined our area! For right under 100 years, (since 1924) our neighborhood was the most desirable in the city! Took 6 months for bike lanes to ruine it! no one wants to live here because of the hassle! So no, again, not ok! Bike fanatics are ruining this great country!

 

again, to make a hand full of bike nuts happy... ruined the lives and property values of about 16,000 people!

Ok, just got it back from the powdercoaters. Turned out to be $150 since it turns out I have some dealin' skills.

So sick.

Rack was brought out with the major pieces wrapped in Manila paper.



Fine Texture finish came out so perfect.


These plates go in the sliding rail to anchor the rack. My fabricator reminded me to get these powdercoated since they will rust if unprotected. Threads were untouched!


The magic of the system is with these removable crossbars. It's held in place by one bolt from the bottom threading to a nut welded inside the bar. The bar ends are capped and smoothed out.



Powdercoating is key since many parts are removable or movable. Does not scratch at all. Side rail is used to keep the rack in place. All the weight is transferred on to the top of the bed.

I only ride on trails btw. Too many vehicles want to hit road cyclists and teach them a lesson these days.

 

I have the same rack(Thule) with a hard shell rtt. I drove from Cali to Alabama, about a three week trip and got 19 mpg all fwy if I stayed below at 70 or below. I also have a supercharger on the truck which didn't engage while I was going for best mpg...I started out driving fast like I normally do but had to slow down due to poor mileage...

 

You have a photo? Is your tent above the roof? That Thule Xsporter sits so high on a Tacoma. It needs to be cut.

My profile pic shows the setup, not sure if u can c it...the rtt rides about 2" above the shark fin....still gets good signal from satellite radio...

 

In the spirit of zombie jesus day I'm going to resurrect this thread.

Any more details or photos on the fit issues with the Thule Xsporter? Hard to believe that the rails are at their lower limits in those photos, looks like they are maxed out!

Without a fabricator buddy, what are the rack options available if I have a RTT but still want to use the tailgate for my bikes? Somewhat modular or at least easily removable would be preferred.

My buddy is using the FrontRunner rack on his Tundra but has a NSR4 hitch rack also. Was hoping to keep things on the tailgate because it's easy to haul up to six bikes and that NSR4 is not cheap.
