Just installed the same lift this weekend at my parents place cranked coils to 2 3/8" driver side and 2 1/8" passenger side. Still looked low like only 1 1/2" lift. Drove a hour back to my place and it look like the front end rose another 1 1/2" on the way back. Can't think why it did that.

So found the exploded view design of the shock on Fox's website. Go figure. parts and pieces are spendy!

Sorry to bring up an old thread

Recently had 2.5 Fox Coilover installed. The most recent revision to these shocks no longer have the backup ring, just a single preload ring with a pinch bolt, I confirmed with a fox rep that this is the current revision/setup. Per the same rep, the preferred way of adjusting preload/height is to use a spring compressor to relieve pressure off of the preload ring and then adjust the ring. Not doing so voids the warranty. Which make sense because it is near impossible to turn the preload ring with coil/spring tension on it, which could destroy the threads on the shock body

That said, since it's impossible to use a spring compressor with the shock installed, I would have to pull the shock out make adjustments and reinstall. In an effort to avoid multiple installs and reinstalls to get the right ride height I am trying to achieve, I was wondering if some of you may be able to give me some information

    - Is it turning the preload ring right (Clockwise) to increase the height, and turning the preload ring left (counter clockwise) to decrease right height?
    - Also is does an increase/decrease of 1" in thread showing equal right height difference?

On second though, I could measure total shock length make and adjustment and see which way and how much the change is in shock length. I would still appreciate any input/info though

Voids the warranty? Compressing is only highly recommended:

No, it about doubles that = 1/2" thread change affects about 1" to the height.

Not using spring compressors shouldn't void warranty because it was only recommended. Just don't release the clamp screw all the way just till it noticeably easier to back out then tighten back just a hair. Just jack the truck up till the tires don't touch the ground. Soak the threads on the shocks with WD40 and if you have remote resi 's use a 5/16" heavy hole punch from Harbor Freight for $8 for a set of 5 because the fox spanner wrench is crap. 1/2" turns is roughly 1" of lift and if you are running a 2016 tacoma 3" of lift it is center of hub to bottom of fender flare is 23".

FYI after you adjust the final height I would take a pipe lock wrench wrap a towel and rotate the bottom of the shock straight because it can start grinding on the LCA if not straighten out.

Yup, I read that too, but according to the Fox rep I was exchanging emails with, he insists that it will void the warranty,

I will give it another shot today, if not, I'll pull the shock out.

Did the FOX rep. knows which type of shocks you have? 2.0 models have an aluminium body (threads too), 2.5 models have a steel body. So, the risk of destroying the thread is much greater in 2.0 models. Just lube the adjustment threads well with WD40 day earlier, lift the front end up, and you should be fine. This is how folks are done this many decades now.

So to raise your truck do you need to show thread or less thread

Hey guys I got the Fox 2.5 with resi can anyone tell me approx how much of a lift will I get from the pic. Bottom of blue tape is factory setting so I went down approx 3/4 inch. As @Kman mentioned above it is nearly impossible to try to turn the preload ring without a spring compressor machine but then again I didn't use wd40. @FinnJ any feedback is appreciated. I have a 2017 offroad and I'm looking for a 2.5" lift.

The stock setting gives you about 2" lift, now you are going between 3" to 3.5" I think. Install them first, you can loosen the collar easier without a spring compressor. Just lube the spring perch and thread first. 8mm punch is just right size for the adjusting.
