Last Wednesday I took my 2016 Sport 4x4 DC in for the 5k service. I had an appointment. I asked that the TSB's be done as well as a (rough service) oil change. The service writer gave me a lot of lip about doing it. Apparently there was an engine update. They kept me waiting more than three hours. I guess they were calling around looking for an ECU. The tech fried my ECU. They claim it will be about a week to get one. When I go online to the discount parts dealers they seem to be available. They set me up in a snot green 50k mile smoke odor Camry.

Here's me taking their badge off last week:

I'm wondering if I can expect electrical gremlins in the future? They broke my new truck.

Are you saying I should demand an upgraded warranty?

As much as I love to bag on Toyota these days, this sounds like an accident. They are making it right. It will be documented in the service records (make sure they note everything before you sign the paperwork).

You could call corporate to see about a platinum warranty, but any ECU related issues will be covered because they broke it and replaced it.

My advice here is to be bff's with the service manager. They will be your biggest advocates with toyota corporate if shit hits the fan. Dont burn that bridge.

Damn, there are some tards on this forum. Locking up any control module can happen to anyone and any manufacturer. All it takes is the computer the stumble during programming, internet connection to drop out, truck voltage to spike, etc.

The are fixing it for you, I wouldn't go in being an asshole.

And for the record, you a;ready have an extended warranty on the ECM. Its covered 8/80k per federal emissions warranty.

Not referring to the OP. I'm talking about all the guys "call Toyota. Get an extended warranty".

its not like replacing a piece of your home computer and hoping things jive. Ecms aren't some magic box that controls the universe. It makes the engine run and trans shift (if they are same module. Could be 2 separate ones).

Aussiek2000 yes you are right...ECU warranty is guaranteed by Federal Emissions up to 8/80K.....it happened to me at 42K odometer reading and only found out at 76K because of intermittent presentation........

That's exactly why I posted. I did not know how long it's covered. And I'm not an asshole. I'm just a stupid woman. But I've never heard of an ECU getting fried on a new vehicle. They kind of set the tone by implying I'm an idiot for wanting an oil change at 5k miles.
