First I would like to say that I have been following this forum for quite some time before I purchased my 2017 BBP Tacoma TRD. Although this is not my first Toyota, it by far is the best I have ever owned.

Now onto my first post (I apologize for how long it is)...

I took delivery of the truck on Oct 26th and noticed that the LED DRL were not quite as bright as I thought they would be. This has now turned into the passenger side being completely dead, and the driver side having only the lower half of the LED strip lit. This all has happened in the span of a few weeks and I am wondering what the best approach is to take with the dealership?
I have already checked every single fuse both inside the truck under the drivers dash, and inside the engine compartment. Only one fuse was blown, the 7.5 amp fuse under the drivers dash for the rear brake lights. I had not even noticed that the DRL and running lights were on the same circuit until I noticed that after swapping the fuse out with a spare 7.5 that the tailights came back on. I have also checked the connections to both headlights, and the only thing I cannot check is the wire going into the headlight through the rubber grommet, to which I have to assume is the wire that powers the LED strip?

The only concern I have is how long do you think it may take for the dealership to "diagnose" the issue and replace both headlights, since the LED strips are built into the headlight itself. I did see someone on here that somehow changed the color of the LED strip to match the paint, but I am not sure if that was by taking the entire headlight apart or not?

Has anyone had their headlights replaced for a similar issue yet? I searched the entire forum and the closest thing I could find was headlight swaps for the TRD Pro headlight assy.

Any help would be greatly appriciated

I would take it straight to the dealer. The truck is to new for that kind of issue.

    Warranty.

I believe there is a DRL control module somewhere. Could be wrong, but my guess is that's the culprit.

BTW don't waste your breath explaining what you've done so far. They won't care.

Warranty, take it in, could be nothing more then a bad assembly, however, you'll never know until it goes in. Haven't seen a whole lot of complaints about them failing. You could also have a short somewhere, however, you'll never know until it's looked at unless you are willing to start pulling connections and running a voltmeter to check and frankly, I wouldn't be doing that on a new ride with a warranty.

    Good luck.

I am thinking that I have a bad pair of headlights as the passenger side is completely dead and only the lower half of the drivers side is lit. They both worked when I got the truck a few weeks ago, however if there was a short in the LED strip on one side that I am guessing could cause this? I forgot to mention that I also swapped the DRL relay out, and also checked for power to both sides with my voltmeter, both sides are getting power to the wires that go into the rubber grommet. I don't even have 1k on the truck yet lol

There are to many variables bud. Just take it in. Point at the lights. They won't be able to throw the 'can't replicate issue' shit at you.

Also if you are Canadian, you use the metric system. So is that 1 K on the odometer or 1K K on it? :D

This is re-assuring :) I was hoping this was not going to be my first post, but oh well. I did get a chance to snap a nice pic on the weekend, that is when I noticed that the LED lights were out lol.

oh, and that is 1k as in kilometers ;) I believe I am sitting at 765 so far. I am also very glad I decided to get the manual instead of auto, so much fun to drive!

Good call on getting the appt set up for the dealer to fix it under warranty. I must say, however, that I applaud your ability and willingness to troubleshoot yourself! Not everyone has the desire or ability.
