maybe you got lucky somehow. my 2000 taco was bought back from Toyota in 2008 for frame failure. it was nice. They paid 150% of KBB value of excellent. I wasnt to upset about that

So does Toyota actually make the frames or do they source them from someone else? Can they ask that supplier to share in the law suit cost?

Toyota said in a statement “we want our customers to have a great ownership experience, so we are pleased to resolve this litigation in a way that benefits them and demonstrates that we stand behind the quality and reliability of our vehicles.”

This is why Toyota resale value will remain high.
If owners buy a vehicle that is manufactured
or produced inadequately, they will pay for it.

I feel like they still have a Japanese culture
behind their product. Which is to remain true
to the customer and be proud of what they
    construct.

Did they fight this case, they sure did. They
are just following laws that allow them to
defend themselves. After all, not all tacomas
had rusty frames. The ones that did rust
just couldn't hold up to the salt and slush
    from the cold front.

Parts suppliers produce the parts exactly as the manufacturer specifies, unless it's their mistake. If the frames are protected enough, it's probably Toyota's fault. The part supplier has input, but at the end of the day it's Toyota specifications that they are manufacturing. Many times the parts supplier pays in some as a good faith effort, not to loose the business.

So the only compensation is a frame replacement if it fails an inspection? Am I screwed if I welded to the frame of my 05? I welded rock sliders and rear shock mounts, but rust is starting to become a problem on the front half. I was considering washing and painting the frame soon, but that's a giant PITA.
