I just used the plate that holds the switches and traced it's profile onto the door. Then cut it out with a Dremel. If you use the 6 switches like me measure thrice and cut once. There is not much room for error left or right.

To confirm, the connector for the electrical trailer brakes is behind the kick panel on the drivers side. The best way to tap into the trailer connector is to buy a trailer brake harness adapter for your year (link for 2006 below), plug it into the connector, and then tap into the wires of the adapter for power, etc. The OP mentioned that he didn't intend to use the trailer brake connector but it will still be usable for trailer brakes if you use tap connectors. It can be easily unplugged for troubleshooting or to avoid discussions with your Toyota dealer about warranty issues.

Ill have to look into seeing if I can use one of these to tap 12v for my dashcam for now. I dont want to splice any wires for now since I lease it.

There's a switched 12V fuse in the truck's main fuse box. Use a fuse tap - no cutting or splicing.

I am trying to avoid using a fuse tap as I dont want to have to leave the cover off and the wires hanging down, or run a wire through the firewall for now.

Why would you leave the cover off? I put mine back in place, with the tapped wire poking out from under it. Running a wire through the firewall is also easy - there are several spots you can poke it through without doing any damage.

Id have to leave the (white) cover off/dangling if i used a mini wiretap in the box under the dash.

I just cant wait until I buy out my lease. I plan on adding a 2nd battery/brake control/busbox/CB/ and upgrading said dashcam to 24hr system among other things.

I would need this anyway if I get the brake contoller

If your going to keep the truck and pay the lease residual, why wait?? I doubt anyone will ever notice where a wire "was" if you decide not to keep the vehicle anyway.. Been there, done that.. Many many years ago.

Does this thread need more pics? I used pretty much the same parts and made a box for myself. That strap is a game changer, seriously. I've even upgraded mine to add a ignition-controlled relay.
Only problem I have is having to disconnect the power (unscrew bolts very carefully) every time I need to get into my actual fuse box. Hopefully this prevents any of those fuses /relays from blowing out.

Where are the pos/neg wires running to from the 6th circuit if there are only 5 relays in your box? Just curious where those went.

At the moment they go nowhere. I figure when I have used all 5 of those relays I will mount the sixth near whatever component that 6th location will feed.

Ha! We call that Vegas syndrome. The whole world pictures Nevada as being just like Vegas. Most of Nevada gets lots of snow and cold. We see 25 below every winter and I shovel and plow more snow than I care to admit.
